Then, meditating on the eightfold noble path would also become unreasonable. The path to higher realms, such as properly taking vows, practicing meditation, and diligently engaging in samadhi, would also become unreasonable. All worldly and transworldly actions would become meaningless. Therefore, recognizing that such a great fault of establishing non-authorship from the non-establishment of authorship, and establishing the action of non-author from non-action, is unavoidable, one should accept that authors and actions are interdependent. As stated above, because there exists an impeccable argument, it has been shown that the position of establishing non-authorship, non-action, and the action of non-author from non-action is unreasonable. The nominalists say: From the perspective of nominal existence, there is no fault because the agent both exists and does not exist, and thus action arises from both existence and non-existence. Here it is said: That which has become an agent and has not become an agent, that which has become and has not become, does not act. That which has become and that which has not become, how can they be one since they are mutually contradictory? Thus, that which has become and that which has not become are mutually contradictory, and therefore they cannot exist simultaneously in one thing. If it has become, how can it not have become? If it has not become, how can it have become? It is like how fire in this world cannot simultaneously have the nature of heat and the nature of cold. If it is said that it has become because it exists in the nature of the substance, and it has also not become because the nature of the agent does not exist before the action and the agent, and therefore, due to this dependence, one thing has the nature of both at the same time, so there is no fault. That is not good, because it will obstruct the certainty of dependence, and because it is obstructed by the inference shown in both ways, it is not without fault. If it is said that the offering is both the agent and the non-agent, and because there is no example, it will not be harmed by inference. Then, making offerings in the continuum of Devadatta
