Those things that are empty of inherent existence, if they exist, why do they not exist? Because "this exists, therefore that arises," that statement is not reasonable. That matter has already been explained there. Here it is also said, whatever is dependent arising, its nature is pacified. Whatever things arise dependently, in ultimate truth, their nature is pacified, meaning they are unborn. The Blessed One said, "If something arises from causes and conditions, it is not truly born. If something depends on causes and conditions, that is emptiness. Whoever understands emptiness is mindful." Like that. Similarly, "Whatever arises dependently, they have no essence whatsoever. Whatever is without inherent existence, they will never arise or change." Like that. Similarly, Mahamati, having understood from the unborn nature, therefore showed that all dharmas are without inherent existence, etc., just as it was said. Therefore, like this, refuting the opponent with a contentious mind is like scattering a handful of ashes in order to make the stainless moon stained. Therefore, the state of arising and arising itself are also pacified. Thus, if truly examined, dependent arising has no birth, like an illusion, therefore the state of arising and arising itself are also pacified. Regarding this, if the opponent relies on arising, thinking that one should infer the arising in ultimate truth, that statement is not correct. Others say, relying on this and that cause and condition, one sees the arising of a pot and the arising of a felt. Because there is no more superior valid cognition than what is seen, therefore, what is already born and what is not born and the state of arising, in no way do they produce. That statement is not reasonable. Here it is said, who would object to seeing the collection that conforms to discipline etc.? But those are conventional truths, not ultimate truths. Therefore, for those etc., there is no fault in composing treatises because one wants to abandon the attachment to appearances. If it is said that a pot arises, a felt arises

How then should we ascertain that those which are called nominal are not ultimately real? Listen to this: if it arises, it is a pot and felt; if it does not arise, it is not. Since there is no further arising for what has already arisen, it is unreasonable to say that a pot and felt arise. If, even though it has not arisen, one conceives of a pot in the mind and then attaches a name, saying that a pot arises, that is merely a nominal designation. For the pot conceived in the mind does not arise. Those Vaibhashikas who think that form and so on, and pots and so on, arise merely from existence because of the change of time, that too is unreasonable. If things have not arisen, where would they exist? If things that have not arisen, such as pots and felt, existed in the causes or in something other than their collection, why would they arise there? Why would what exists arise at that time? For the arising of what exists would be meaningless. Therefore, it is said that if it exists, it will not arise. Thus, before arising, the assertion of those who claim that things exist without arising is inferred to be merely existence, and because it possesses the nature of non-arising, it eliminates arising. Therefore, it shows the fault of harming the inference of those who assert existence. For those who assert the change of time, there is also the same fault, since it is inferred to be merely existence that there is no change in the present time, and because it eliminates the change in the present time. This answers the questions of things, characteristics, states, and the transformation of others. If the Samkhyas say that things merely make existence clear and thus there is no fault, that is unreasonable, because the clarification has already been refuted. How can one know that what has not arisen exists? The Samkhyas and Vaibhashikas say that what has not arisen can be known to exist only because it is included in time, like such a thing. But in reality, such a thing has not been proven to be essentially existent, because there is no example, so the desired meaning is not established. This (answers) form and so on...
