It is not possible. The three, such as arising, etc., cannot individually serve as the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. This is because aggregates of characteristics, such as obscuration, can represent the basis of characteristics, so it is thought. Even if it is admitted that arising and so on occur sequentially, for a phenomenon that has not arisen, there is no arising, abiding, or ceasing, so there is no power to act as the characteristic of conditioned phenomena. For a phenomenon that has ceased, there is also no basis for characteristics, so there is no arising, abiding, or ceasing, so there is no power to act as the characteristic of conditioned phenomena. For a phenomenon that has arisen, there is no arising. For a phenomenon that abides, cessation is impossible. Abiding is related to impermanence. Like this: Where is a thing without abiding? Because of impermanence, where does it abide? If it abides at first, it will not turn old in the end. If there is momentary impermanence, the moment will not remain. Or from the constant, later it will also turn impermanent. If a thing is impermanent, and abiding exists at the same time, impermanence is contradictory, or abiding becomes false. That's what it says. If it is thought that the aggregation of arising and so on is itself the characteristic of conditioned phenomena, even if it is an aggregation, how can one thing exist at the same time? Their aggregation on one conditioned phenomenon cannot exist at the same time, which is the meaning of this sentence. If you ask how to determine this? Like this: Arising, abiding, and ceasing, these very different things, occurring simultaneously on any one thing, should not be examined by those whose minds are at ease. The Sutra school says: From the power of individually determined causes and conditions, in the continuum that arises, a phenomenon arises only at one time, and what arises from not arising is arising. The continuum of the previous moment, the previous moment, is certainly abiding. The characteristic that is not the same as the previous moment is aging. Separation after arising is ceasing, so relying on certainty in this way, arising and so on are the characteristics of aggregation. One moment exists at the same time, so that establishment

It does not harm beings. Even if one fully understands in this way, since it is not a continuous substance, and since one distinguishes between arising and abiding, etc., these three characteristics are merely nominal, not ultimately real. Even during the time of abiding, there is no destruction that is incompatible with it. This fault, as previously stated, will not change. The Vaibhashikas say: "The acquisition of self from something that did not previously exist is birth, the abiding of what is born is abiding, the aging of what abides is aging, and the cessation of aging is destruction. Therefore, since birth and so on occur sequentially, there is no confusion about the nature of conditioned phenomena. Because these characteristics are established, it is unreasonable to say that each of the three, birth and so on, cannot function as a characteristic of conditioned phenomena." This is not reasonable, because what is called a characteristic never confuses what is the basis of the characteristic. For example, hardness does not confuse earth, and the characteristics of a great man do not confuse a great man. Ultimately, birth and so on cannot be the characteristics of conditioned phenomena because they occur sequentially. For example, the differences in the stages of clay, lumps, semi-finished products, tiles, and pottery are not the characteristics of a conditioned pot. If you say that birth and so on are not confused because they do not exist in the unconditioned, this is an approximation, not ultimately existent, because birth is prevented, and for the unborn, there is no abiding or destruction. Even at the time of birth, there is no abiding, and the nature of non-destruction is not their nature, so they are not compatible with them. Even if one imagines that they have their nature in the manner of later arising, it is only nominal, so the faults mentioned above cannot be avoided. Therefore, since birth and so on, individually and collectively, cannot be established as the characteristics of conditioned phenomena, the fault of reasoning has not been reversed. Furthermore, for birth, abiding, and destruction, another characteristic of the conditioned is:
