Gone or not gone? If it exists in meditation, then again, briefly, the gone has no going, because the act of going has passed. That meaning is also well-known to others, so it need not be established. Saying that is because it is considered an example desired by others. Its dharma is the path itself, and the ungone is also the same as that. Therefore, the ungone also has no going, because it is the path, like the gone path. Thus, contemplate. Furthermore, the ungone means that the act of going has not begun, and its dharma is the ungone itself. The example is the object to be established and the power of the dharma to be established. Both have well-known dharmas, and the subject is the path that does not want to go. Here, the inference is that the ungone has no going because it is ungone, like the path that does not want to go other than that. Here, the owl masters say: If the ungone, does Devadatta show that there is no going because the act of going has not arisen? Or does it show that there is no going because the act of going has arisen? What difference does that make? If you accept it according to the former examination, then it is establishing what has already been established. If you accept it according to the latter examination, then it is contradictory to the reason, so it is not that the meaning of the former reason is not established. If you say that going outside of substance is not established, so it is not reasonable, then the object of the wisdom that Devadatta has going is in accordance with the meaning of the word other than the nature of Devadatta, because it gives rise to it, just like the object of the wisdom that Devadatta has a stick. So they say. Here, if it is shown that the object of wisdom is in accordance with the meaning of the word other than the nature of Devadatta, if Devadatta has any distinction, then in the mundane world it is established on what should be established, like this, the so-called Devadatta, in the collection of conditioned things, has the distinction of the nature of arising elsewhere, here, this wisdom that this has going, because it has been promised. If you say that Devadatta has the meaning of the word going, then there will be no metaphor. If in others, also in the mundane world
