Now it can be accepted. To say that emptiness is not, for whom emptiness is not permissible, for him everything is not permissible. Whoever says that emptiness is not, everything that is taught to him becomes impermissible. Your own faults are completely transferred to me, just like forgetting the horse while riding on it. You completely transfer your own faults to me, just like forgetting the horse while riding on it. Just as everything is unreasonable for one who does not want emptiness, it should be said here that if things are observed as existing from their own nature, then you think that things are without cause and condition. Because being from self-nature does not depend on cause and condition. The result and the cause itself, as well as the agent and the act and the object, birth and cessation, also harm the result. Because without relying on cause and condition, the result and so on cannot be established. You should first fully examine the meaning of emptiness, like a child drawing a terrifying image of a yaksha and being afraid, making a sound of fear, what is that like? If its meaning is that the form of things does not exist and is empty, like the nature of illusion, then let go of fear! Like this: Whatever is dependent arising, that is said to be emptiness. Things in the conditions, having their own thing, and not having, and having and not having, and other, and non-other, and not having both, in the ultimate truth, arising dependently from the conditions, by nature is not born. The arising of the eyes and so on depends on the conventional truth. That is said to be emptiness, because it is separated from self-nature. As it is said: That which is born from conditions is unborn. It has no self-nature birth. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is not negligent. It is said like this, and likewise, the great wise one, considering that there is no birth by nature, said that all dharmas are empty, like this.

That is established by dependence. That itself is the Middle Way. What is called dependent arising, whatever emptiness is, that is established by dependence. For those who desire to accept the terms of worldly and transworldly, it is established by relying on those. That itself is the Middle Way, because the Middle Way abandons the two extremes of arising and non-arising, existence and non-existence. For example, it is neither born nor unborn, neither existent nor non-existent, neither permanent nor impermanent, neither empty nor non-empty. Therefore, in the Perfection of Wisdom, it is said: Meditating on the Middle Way, one does not completely fixate on the eye being an entity, nor does one completely fixate on it being non-existent. And in the Noble Jewel Heap Sutra, it is said: Light-protected, saying 'it exists' is one extreme; saying 'it does not exist' is the second extreme. Whatever is between those two extremes is not form, cannot be pointed out, is unobstructed, does not abide, is not appearance, is not consciousness, and has no place. Those are established. The path is a synonym for the means of attainment. If one thinks, 'I also say: By the power of individually determined causes and conditions, whatever is dependently arisen, that is said to be emptiness. That is established by dependence. That itself is the Middle Way.' This refers to whatever arises from what did not previously arise, that is the nature of the thing, and that is neither existent nor non-existent like a rabbit's horn. Whatever arises from its own nature, that is the Middle Way that abandons the two extremes, if one thinks like that. Then, emptiness will not be established here, if this verse is to wash away the stain of conceptualization. If you are covered by the mud of the stain of conceptualization, and you want to combine, then the combination depends on it. For example, if one wears the jewel of the crest on the feet as an ornament, although one would complain, however, if one wears it, that is wearing it in the wrong place, just as the wise would be ashamed, so are you.

Even speaking these words does not harm this verse. However, your intention will not be fulfilled, because if things do not have inherent existence, dependent arising will not be established. Therefore it is said: Because there is no non-dependent arising phenomenon, there is no non-emptiness phenomenon. Dependent arising is like an illusionary person, because it lacks inherent existence. If someone says that for things like space that are not dependently arisen, because there is no dependent arising, there is the fault of the argument not being established on one side of the concordant side. This is because it has already been answered, so it cannot be objected to again. Therefore, if things that truly exist have inherent existence, because they have the nature of arising and ceasing, then the consequence of what you said is also not followed, and because it only appears in the discordant side, it is also self-contradictory. The commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, the Lamp of Wisdom, chapter eighteen has already been explained through inference, but if it is unbearable that things do not have inherent existence through the power of inference, then you will incur such great irreparable harm. For example, if all this is not empty, there will be no arising and no ceasing, and you will lose the four noble truths. For example, if suffering is not empty, because inherent existence is not made, it will not be dependently arisen. If it is not dependently arisen, then it cannot even be known to exist in name, let alone in ultimate truth. Therefore it is said: If it is not dependently arisen, how can there be suffering? Because non-dependently arisen things do not have impermanence, it is not reasonable to be suffering. Therefore it is said: That which is said to be impermanent and suffering is not inherent in itself. In the Sutra it is said that whatever is impermanent is suffering.
