What should be abandoned? The non-existence of what has ceased to exist cannot be abandoned, just as the non-existence of a sky flower is not abandoned. Similarly, because a horse has no intrinsic nature, it does not abandon the non-existence of a horse. If one thinks that afflictions that have come into existence can be abandoned by generating an antidote, so there is no fault, then it is difficult to explain how the act of abandonment occurs, since an antidote is generated for something that already exists. Therefore, here, it is unreasonable to abandon afflictions by conceiving of them as either existing or not existing. Because there is an opening, it is shown that the dharma of afflictions is what should be abandoned. Therefore, it can be inferred that, ultimately, afflictions are without intrinsic nature because they can be abandoned, like a woman, a man, or a young person conjured by a magician. For the imputation of faults, abandonment exists. Here, the meaning of refutation is to point out the faults in the opponent's assertions and to show that one's own assertions are without flaws, thereby demonstrating the lack of inherent existence of what is inverted. Therefore: Just as this word is not form, as there is nothing to grasp, So afflictions are not form, forever there is nothing to grasp. Just as this word is not existent, as it does not abide inside or outside, So afflictions are not existent, they do not abide inside or outside. And so forth. Similarly, Sharadvatiputra, whatever is the complete knowledge of all afflictions is exactly as it is. There are no afflictions in it. Sentient beings become afflicted through their perversion. Whatever is perverted is not existent. Whatever is not existent has no accomplishment or characteristic of existence. Sharadvatiputra, whatever is completely known in this way is called purification, and so forth. Similarly, the Tathagata awakened to and taught that afflictions are not existent. Although form is invisible, he knows all. Although not dualistic, he manifests, and there is nothing to attain.

Those statements, such as "knowing," are established. Composed by the teacher Lekdenjé (leags ldan byed). From the commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, The Lamp of Wisdom: Examination of Reversals, the twenty-third chapter. Now, similarly, by refuting the distinctions of the opposing aspects of emptiness, relying on the meaning of demonstrating the selflessness of the noble truths, the twenty-fourth chapter is composed. Here it is said: According to the way you have explained it, if all these are empty, then there is no arising and no ceasing. Because it is emptiness, it is thought to be like a flower in the sky. Therefore, such a fault will occur: because there is no arising and no ceasing, what is unborn is not suffering, so there is no truth of suffering, and because there is no truth of suffering, there is no truth of origin from which all that arises, so there is no truth of origin, and if there is no truth of origin, then there is no cessation of that, so there is no truth of cessation, and if there is no truth of cessation, then there is no path to cessation that is preceded by correct view, so there is no truth of the path. Therefore, the four noble truths will become nonexistent for you. Therefore, there are no yogis, and those who fear death do not fully understand the four noble truths, and there is no abandonment and no realization, and as an object of cultivation, suffering must be fully understood, and the origin must be abandoned, and cessation must be realized, and the diligence to cultivate the path cannot be obtained. Therefore, it is said: Because there are no four noble truths, complete knowledge and abandonment, and cultivation and realization, are not reasonable. The so-called "noble truth" is the truth of the noble ones, or the truth that makes one noble, or it is both noble and true, so it is a noble truth. The so-called "truth" is a synonym for reality and non-deception. Here, the two, cultivation and realization, are reversed due to the composition of the verses. Also, furthermore, for you, those do not exist. Because those four noble truths do not exist. Result
