Because it is not destructible, for example, like others. If it is not the Tathagata, then having taken the aggregates of the Tathagata, does one think that one will become the Tathagata? And saying this: If one does not rely on the aggregates, then there is no Tathagata at all. Only then does one rely, and having relied, one becomes that. If one also says this, then one should say to that: Is that the nature of the aggregates, or is it the nature of something else? If it is the nature of the aggregates, then the answer to that aspect has already been given. But if it is the nature of something else, then it does not exist, because it is not the nature of the aggregates, for example, like a rabbit's horn, as previously shown. Again it is said: Whatever does not exist without relying, is not the characteristic of the aggregates. How then does it take? It does not take, because it does not exist, for example, like a flower in the sky, it should be understood. Ultimately, the Tathagata does not exist before birth, therefore the taking of the Tathagata does not take, because it does not exist before birth, for example, like something that is not the Tathagata. If samsara has no beginning and no end, and the Tathagata also cannot be said to be the same or different, therefore before and after are not reasonable, so the reason for saying "does not exist before birth" is not established. That is not good, it should be known that the Tathagata, which is the object of consciousness included in conventional terms, does not exist before birth, because it is conditioned, for example, like a pot. Thus, because it is said to be a reason for non-existence established in conventional terms, and it is also difficult to prove that the Tathagata exists before the aggregates of the Tathagata, therefore that seems to be unestablished. Furthermore, what is not taken, how can it become taking? Then what is it like? The taker's own taken becomes the taking. Without taking, the nature of not taking, taking

"Non-existent" is a word that expresses negation. The Tathagata has nothing. The word "also" means both the one who closely takes and the act of closely taking, implying inclusion. The meaning of the phrase is that the Tathagata does not have the nature of a Tathagata. In this context, due to the clarity of the meaning, it can be inferred that there is no person in the five aggregates, because they are created, like a pot. Similarly, it can also be said that it is due to reasons such as the nature of dependent arising, the nature of impermanence, correctness, error, the object of doubtful knowledge, happiness, the cause of complete suffering, belonging to truth, and so on. The Sthavira Nikāya also refutes this, asserting that in ultimate reality, the Tathagata exists, because the Tathagata did not say that he does not exist. Here, whatever does not exist is what the Tathagata said does not exist, like the self conceived by the Tirthikas. The Tathagata did not say that he does not exist, because when others asked whether the Tathagata exists after Nirvana, he said that it is inexpressible. This statement also negates that. Therefore, in ultimate reality, the Tathagata exists. Therefore, this is an independent inference, and there is no fault of contradictory or confused reasoning. It is explained that the Tathagata did not predict the taste of the mango fruit that grew from inside the stacked house, etc., because it contradicts the meaning of the reason. Therefore, this is not valid reasoning, so the subsequent arguments do not harm it, and it is not an independent inference. The Kāśyapīya school says that in ultimate reality, the Tathagata exists, because he can be designated by the aggregates of appropriation. Here, whatever does not exist cannot be designated by the aggregates of appropriation, like the legs of a snake. The Tathagata can be designated based on the aggregates that are liberated by appropriation, distinguished by the unsurpassed, and the continuum of aggregates. Just as it is said in the Sutras, this name called Buddha
