Like the external earth and so on. It should also be said that it is because of reasons such as doing so. Or, from the ultimate point of view, the aggregates are not the Tathagata, because their birth is prevented, and the existence of things such as form is prevented. Or, it can be said only from the aspect of wisdom, that in the ultimate sense, wisdom is not the Tathagata, because it is subject to arising and ceasing, and it is consciousness, just like the consciousness of individual ordinary people. The non-Buddhists think that the Tathagata is different from the aggregates, and want to establish the self, so they say this: the Tathagata is not different from the body, because there is no inference that can show that there is a Tathagata different from them, and just as the self different from the aggregates is prevented, it is also prevented. Only because it is not established that the Tathagata is different from the aggregates, it is said that it has no body, just as there is medicine on the snow mountain. There is no it there, just as there is a lion in the forest with lush trees. The Tathagata does not have a body, just as a wealthy person has wealth. Therefore, if one fully examines in five ways, what impossible Tathagata is there? If one fully examines with the proofs shown as before, then the name "Tathagata" does not exist, this is the meaning of this sentence. For example, when fully examining those who are diligently pursuing thieves, since nothing can be considered a thief, it is like asking "Which one is the thief?" Also, for example, it is like asking "Without destroying the aggregates, which one is the person or Ishvara?" Therefore, in this way, the Tathagata is not established, so there is the fault of incomplete proof. Others say: The Tathagata is established by relying on the aggregates, so this proof does not harm us. Here it is said: If you want to establish the Buddha relying on the aggregates, then if so, there is no Tathagata from its own nature.

It is a synonym for saying that it is without inherent existence and not substantially existent, which is the establishment of a tenet. The branch dharma exists within it. For example, due to this, there are fire wheels and vases, etc. Here, the subsequent inference is: In the ultimate sense, the Tathagata is without inherent existence and not substantially existent, because it is something that can be established, like a fire wheel; or because it is not substantially existent, like a vase. Some unwise people say here: If, for the time being, from the characteristic, whatever eliminates other consciousnesses, like that unconscious vase of water, that is conventionally existent, ultimate existence is another meaning. If saying this can prevent substantial existence, then it does not harm us, because when the vase is destroyed and other consciousnesses are eliminated, the forms other than those have those consciousnesses, so those are substantially existent. That is not good, because the characteristic harms substantial existence. Whatever is destroyed, that itself harms substantial existence. Because it is necessary to determine "it is unconscious," so whatever is not destroyed, that also does not have its consciousness. Because they want to call the elimination of others, including what is closely taken, as "eliminating others." Others say: In the ultimate sense, a vase is substantially existent, because it is knowable, like a form. Because it is knowable, the synonym for that substantially existent knowable is cognizable. Because from the characteristic, the etymology of knowable is said to be the meaning of cognizable. Vases, etc., are also established as substantially existent, so there is no basis for saying that they are conventionally existent like vases and water. That is unreasonable, because in the ultimate sense, form has not been established as substantially existent, so there is no example. In conventional terms, although, as the characteristic says, all things are nominally existent, however, whatever has its consciousness undestroyed, that is substantially existent, and whatever is destroyed when its consciousness does not exist, that is established as nominally existent. Non-things are also knowable in the form of non-things, but because they are not substantially existent, they do not...
