It is not so. This is said to show the two commitments. Then, to show how it is not possible for something that does not exist to be a cause, it is: "If there is nothing, what will be the cause?" It means that here, it should be known that things that do not exist, such as sky flowers, are not the complete cause of anything. Those things are not the cause of any sky flowers and rabbit horns, which is the meaning of the words. This is shown as a similar example. If there is no result, then the dharma of the cause is the absence of the result itself, and the dharma of the result is also the absence itself. Therefore, the inference is that, ultimately, things such as results do not have the nature of a cause, because they have no result. For example, like the sky, because there is no sky flower. Similarly, ultimately, things such as results are not the cause of sprouts, because they do not exist, like sky flowers. Or, some say this: they do not want what does not exist to arise, but they want what has the nature of arising to arise, because it did not exist before. For those people, it is said: "If there is nothing, what will be the cause?" It means that even if things such as vases and cloths and sabma, which are characterized by non-existence before arising, are non-existent themselves, then how can non-existent things be the cause of things such as results? Because it will not become a cause in any way. Therefore, it can only be understood that, ultimately, things such as results are not the cause of sprouts, because they do not exist before arising, like vases and other things. For the second case, it is: "If there is, what does the cause do?" It means that even if it exists, for something that exists by the nature of the sprout itself, even in name, it is not considered that things such as results are the cause, because it does not depend on the act of producing, such as the person who is already born or other things such as vases. Therefore, the meaning of the argument is not established. Some among the Samkhyas say that what exists is revealed by the causes, and it makes it coarse. It is unreasonable to say, "If there is, what does the cause do?" Those manifestations have also been refuted.

Because of the reason of decay, and the very existence of grossness, and because it becomes a fault in how it is shown to be non-existent, that should be known. The Sutra masters say: For the meaning of non-existence or existence, conditions are not suitable. It is true to say so. However, when the fruit arises and manifestly tends towards it, the conditions rely on the concern of mutual benefit, and have the nature of being able to produce the fruit, those who hear acknowledge it as a truly infallible condition, so at that time, because the fruit is being produced, it is not non-existent; because it has not arisen, it is not existent. Therefore, for our school, there is no harm of such refutation as has been said. Here it is said, for that examination too, for the meaning of non-existence or existence, conditions are not suitable. It is said so because it should not be said to be existence and non-existence, because it is not both cases. Just like other than that, it is thought so. For this, whatever is considered not to be said as existence and non-existence, that is neither non-existent nor existent. Therefore, truly, for the eye and so on, it should be known that those are not the conditions of eye consciousness and sprouts, because the fruit of those should not be said to be existence and non-existence. For example, just like other than that, so that is not an answer. In name, the arising of things that are separated from the nature of existence and so on is also established. If someone says that since those who speak of both acknowledge that the fruit is the condition of existence and non-existence, there is no fault as has been said, then those also, because of the establishment shown in both aspects, refute those who speak of both, so they do not give breath. Thus, after temporarily showing the general refutation of all conditions, because they want to particularly refute those ways, they said this. Temporarily, in terms of the cause condition, for this, although the conditions are general, what is the condition that produces what is to be produced, that is considered a condition. If it is said that then the arising of what is to be produced depends on the collection, so the arising itself is not unique, then although it is admitted to refute arising, so that is unreasonable, however, after acknowledging the establishment of the cause of name,
