They are not the same even at the time of view. For nihilists, there arises the imputation of all things that have non-existence as their object, saying, "There is no consciousness." This is a wrong view. Therefore, merely being defiled by the impurity of immoral precepts will not cause suffering to subside. But for those who speak of the Middle Way, even at the time of viewing it, the mind that previously arose with respect to objects such as form, realizes that objects such as form are empty. Therefore, the conceptualization that these objects such as form are not existent will cease. The thought that a mind of non-existence has arisen through the understanding of meaning will also not arise, because the thought that objects such as form do not exist in ultimate reality is not as it is, because it is a thought, just like the thought of existence. In order to refute that thought. Or, for those in whom a mind that appears as an object arises, there is an opportunity for a mind of non-existence to arise by eliminating it. For those who do not eliminate it, the mind of non-existence will also cease through the gate of perceiving non-existence. Because for those who abide in the practice of wisdom that is without practice, who have become extremely secluded, the thought of thinking that there is nothing does not arise, therefore there is not even a similarity in sound between nihilists and those who speak of the Middle Way. Even at the time of teaching, they only negate existence, and therefore do not teach it as non-existence. The difference is very great, like a mustard seed and Mount Meru. Even though all phenomena are equal to nirvana, because they will realize ultimate reality, in order to gather many retinues, in order to be in accordance, and because it is also true in worldly conventions, just as those internal and external things that are known as true and untrue in the world, in conventions, all are true and untrue. Just as the Blessed One also said, "Whatever is known as existent in the world, I also say is existent; whatever is known as non-existent in the world, I also say is non-existent." Or, the sense bases such as the eye and the objects such as form, conventions.

Because it does not contradict conventional truth, it is said that everything is true. In terms of ultimate truth, because things that arise dependently are like illusions, their own nature is not completely established. Therefore, things are not as they appear, so it is said to be untrue. Considering the aspects of the two truths, it is said: True and untrue. Thus it is said. At the time of realization, yogis do not discriminate in any way the suchness of all dharmas, therefore it is said: Untrue, not untrue. This is the teaching of the Buddha. Alternatively, in order to abandon the obscurations of afflictions, the Bhagavan taught the inner and outer sources as the knowable, with the characteristics of being without self and without what belongs to self, which are immovable, all of which are said to be true. Because the self of the nature of consciousness has a self and what belongs to self, and because it is what belongs to self, it is said to be the agent, therefore those who listen, think, and meditate are said to be untrue. Considering the terms of the world and the scriptures, it is said: True and untrue. Thus it is said. According to the Mahayana doctrine, all dharmas are unborn, therefore, the nature of consciousness with and without discrimination becomes the object of experience, and because of the nature of things, the distinctions made regarding truth and so on, because there is no such thing, it is said: Untrue, not untrue. This is the teaching of the Buddha. The Buddha is so called because he has completely understood the suchness of the Dharma without error, and is the supreme sage. The teaching is to those who desire the happiness of gods and humans, and the happiness of liberation, according to their faculties, intentions, habits, and times, to show the path to gods and liberation without error. Alternatively, the teaching is to cut off all sounds with the habits of affliction that exist in one's own and others' minds. The teaching of the Buddhas is what the Buddhas taught, the ultimate and wonderful way of conventional and ultimate truth, the unobstructed speech that is not shared with other schools, and one should strive for this in order to remove all the darts of attachment.
