For example, when the knower's suchness-knowing arises or does not arise, because the object itself, the realm of wisdom that does not discriminate, does not completely abandon its own nature. Therefore, the elaboration of the nature of speech that contradicts this ceases. The cessation of the mind's realm is not done by anything. So, what is it like? The mind's realm, form, etc., is unborn and unceasing, like the nature of Dharma Nirvana. The nature of Dharma, the essence of Dharma, and the nature of Dharma are synonyms for these. Or, someone says that other elaborations will cease due to emptiness, what reason is there for this? The teacher says: The yogi abides in emptiness, abides in the signless, so the speech to be spoken ceases. Therefore, speech ceases, which is a synonym for saying that the entry of speech ceases. Therefore, the mind's realm ceases. The mind's realm is a synonym for the mind's movement. The nature of the object is said to be what the mind distinguishes, and that is also because it ceases by abiding in the unconditioned, so the mind's realm ceases. How does the mind's realm cease? Unborn and unceasing, like the nature of Dharma Nirvana. Because of the remainder of the word 'suchness' of the mind. Or, not seeing things and non-things, that is called seeing suchness, some people think like that, therefore, speech ceases. Not seeing things and non-things. How is that? Because the mind's realm ceases. The activity of the mind, etc., means not focusing on things, etc. Here, too, one should observe taking out the word 'etc.' from within, the activity of the mind, etc., is the mind's realm. Not seeing suchness is also not non-existent, because not seeing the objects of form, etc., only that is said to be the sound of seeing suchness, because of truly knowing the nature of things.

Indeed. As it is said, "Not seeing is seeing." Therefore, speech should be reversed. As it is said in the "Sutra Taught by the Noble Inexhaustible Intellect": "What is the ultimate truth? Where the mind does not wander, what need is there to speak of letters?" Thus it is said. Similarly, it is also said elsewhere: "Separate from mind, intellect, and consciousness," and so forth. Therefore, for the time being, one can only say: "Unborn and unceasing, the nature of reality is the same as nirvana." Only this much can be said, because all phenomena are characterized by emptiness. Furthermore, by the light of the sun of emptiness, one continuously observes the essence of all things, and because one abides in the absence of signs, the expression of speech and mind ceases. Because speech ceases, the sphere of activity of the mind also ceases. The sphere of activity is power itself. How does the power of the mind cease? Here, consciousness arises from the power of objects, and with a continuous stream of understanding of the essence of things and different objects, when various distinctions arise, like a silkworm spinning its cocoon, one's own power is completely bound. By seeing that all phenomena are without self, one does not enter into this, therefore the sphere of activity of the mind ceases. The cessation of the sphere of activity of the mind is not associated with the agent who knows that, but how is it? "Unborn and unceasing, the nature of reality is the same as nirvana." Why? Because the mind and phenomena other than the mind are not made by anything. Even now, in the "Noble Heap of Jewels Sutra," it is said: "Emptiness does not make phenomena empty by emptiness, but phenomena are empty by nature." And so forth. However, one should understand that their nature is the same as nirvana, just as the Thus-Gone One, seated at the heart of enlightenment, whose nature is the essence of extreme non-arising, free from the afflictions arising from unreal pervasive thoughts.

Thus, it is said, "Becoming omniscient," and so forth. Therefore, the seed of existence is consciousness, and objects are its field of activity. If one sees the selflessness of objects, then the seed of existence will be prevented. This statement is also reasonable. Therefore, seeing all phenomena as equal in nature, the same as nirvana, and without arising, the field of activity of the mind will be reversed. When the field of activity of the mind is reversed, what is said will be reversed, and when that is reversed, the proliferation of characteristics, which is manifest attachment to conventional truth, will be pacified. Some of our own school and other schools say that Madhyamikas, because they denigrate all things, are no different from nihilists. To those people, some reply that even if they are the same in eliminating things, just as the equanimity of ordinary people and arhats who have not discriminated and have discriminated, or just as the side of the blind and the sighted is not pleasant, it is certain that they are the same, but there are differences, and there are also differences between nihilists and Madhyamikas. Because the other side shows that there is no difference in the realization of the reality of things, and does not say that there is a difference, it is not an answer. It is not reasonable to say this, when are nihilists and Madhyamikas the same? In conventional time, or in the time of looking at reality? For now, in conventional time, they are manifestly attached to denigrating cause and effect, so they uproot the good side and engage in all non-virtuous actions. Thus, Madhyamikas do not denigrate illusory and mirage-like causal relationships, and do not enter the path of non-virtuous actions. And from the stream of contaminated aggregates, the aggregates of existence also arise, and it is shown that the cessation of the stream of aggregates precedes the arising of the present and the future like dreams, so it does not harm conventional truth itself. Therefore, even in conventional time, nihilists and Madhyamikas are not the same. In reality
