Therefore, emptiness, the nature of complete pacification of all such elaborations, is liberation. Likewise, in short, the Dharma is non-harming, nirvana is emptiness. The Tathagatas have said that only these two exist here. Thus it is said. Some non-Buddhists say: Regarding this, your teacher said in the sutras: I myself am my protector, who else will be a protector? The wise, having well tamed themselves, will also attain the heavens. Thus it is said, and similarly, sentient beings who enter samsara are not liberated from suffering. It is also said that your assertion of no-self will be harmed by the previous commitment. Therefore, the inference refuting the self is not established. Here it is said: Some sentient beings whose intelligence is diminished by the view of denigrating cause and effect, believe that there is no this world, no other world, no fruits or results of good and bad deeds, and no spontaneously born beings. They are attached to these views, always having unwholesome intentions, focused on unwholesome actions, and dwelling on the edge of the great precipice of the lower realms. Therefore, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, wishing to benefit them, possessing the vow to benefit others, relying on the continuum of mind and mental factors, and seeing that their continuum will not be cut off in the future, also establish the existence of a self by the power of conventional truth. Therefore, they also investigate and say that there is a self. Thus it is said. Some sentient beings are attached to the idea that there is a permanent self, a self that pervades everything, a self that has power over good and bad actions, and a self that is the enjoyer. They bind their minds with the rope of the wrong view of self. Because the view of no-self has not arisen in relation to the body, senses, and objects of consciousness, even if they go very far by the power of meditation, samadhi, and absorption, they are like a bird's foot tied with a rope, which falls back even if the rope is long. Having understood that they cannot be liberated from the suffering of birth and so on, they cut the rope of clinging to the self in this way.

In order to pacify suffering, it is also shown that the five aggregates are without self, therefore, it is also called no-self. Thus it is said. Those who have accumulated vast roots of virtue, whose faculties are fully matured, who have faith in the profound and vast Dharma, and who have become vessels of nectar for the teachings that realize omniscience, understand that the nature of conditioned phenomena is emptiness, like dreams, illusions, and reflections of the moon in water, and thus show that in ultimate reality, neither self nor no-self exists. Therefore, the Buddhas have shown that neither self nor no-self exists. Thus it is said, meaning that the basis for distinguishing between self and no-self does not exist. Therefore, in this way, acknowledging self in conventional terms does not contradict the acknowledgment. If it is said that this is not an answer because it is to show the ultimate truth, then it is not that it is not an answer, because the sutra says: "In this there is no self and no sentient being, these dharmas are all with causes." And, the inference that shows its existence is not spoken, and the proof that can refute the self is shown. Again, from another perspective, some non-Buddhists think that conditioned phenomena are selfless, and that each moment is in a state of destruction, or that these dharmas that are definitely present at other times, if they are selfless, then they will think that there is no karma and result, and thus think that the things that will be destroyed have a self, therefore, they also think that there is a self. Thus it is said. There are also some who think that this is only a collection of body, senses, and consciousness, and that apart from cause and effect, there is no self that can be changed, therefore, the conditioned phenomena that are considered sentient beings are selfless, and for these uncertain and unestablished dharmas, samsara is also unreasonable, thus reasoning: Confused about the relationship between cause and effect, how much is the object of the senses, that is all there is to the person, no matter what the blue, yellow, or learned ones say, those are like the footprints of jackals. Beautiful women enjoy and devour well, after you die, your excellent body will not exist, the terrible has passed and will not return, this body is just an aggregation. Thus they say.
