Thus it is called Napa, and similarly, existence and non-existence are both extremes, purity and impurity are both extremes. Therefore, having completely abandoned both extremes, the wise do not dwell even in the middle. Thus and so on. Similarly, as children discriminate, all things are existent. If one sees it as it is, all will be seen as it is. Since all dharmas are not existent, there is no affliction and no purity. How are they not seen? They are also not non-existent. Thus and so on are said, and those are established. Composed by the teacher Lekdenjé. From the commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, the Lamp of Wisdom, the examination of things and non-things is called the fifteenth chapter. Now, similarly, by refuting the differences of the unfavorable aspects of emptiness, the sixteenth chapter is begun with the intention of showing that samsara and nirvana are without inherent nature. Here it is said: In the ultimate sense, the inner things themselves have inherent nature, because they have bondage and liberation. Here, if something is definitely grasped as non-existent, then bondage and liberation are not reasonable, like the son of a barren woman. The inner things are not without bondage and liberation in that way, therefore they exist. Therefore, in the ultimate sense, the inner things themselves have inherent nature. Here it is said: Here, the stream of actions is obscured by the darkness of ignorance accumulated from beginningless time, seized by the crocodile of grasping at self and what belongs to self, like illusion, dream, and mirage, the beings who truly transcend from the prison of samsara are diminished, bound by the iron fetters of afflictions such as desire, this is bondage. Furthermore, when true knowledge arises, being separated from being bound by the iron fetters of afflictions such as desire, and definitely liberated from it, this is liberation. Thus, it is only established by the wisdom that realizes conventional truth, but not by the realization of ultimate truth, because in the ultimate sense, bondage and liberation are not reasonable. Thus, the Bhagavan also said, the Tathagata teaches samsara.

Even when (the Buddha) manifests birth, there is nothing that transmigrates there. Similarly, even when the Tathagata manifests passing into nirvana, there is nothing that passes into nirvana there, just as it is said. The teacher also, focusing on that very meaning, analyzes the various perceptions that are bound. If there were some kind of bondage, would it be the conditioned phenomena or sentient beings? And are the conditioned phenomena permanent or impermanent? If one wants to follow the previous analysis, then it is said: If the conditioned phenomena transmigrate, then if they are permanent, they will not transmigrate. Because there is no inference that proves that conditioned phenomena are permanent, and because with the inference of permanence, bondage and liberation do not exist, therefore, it would be a fault of contradicting the very nature of the dharma in the vow made. Or, 'If they are permanent, they will not transmigrate,' here, transmigration refers to the continuous flow and arising, and the transmigration in the five realms, which is unreasonable for the permanent, undifferentiated conditioned phenomena. Here, the Samkhyas say: If those who speak of permanence also say that, then in order to refute that statement, it is reasonable to say that the permanent do not transmigrate. However, if one says that the conditioned phenomena abandon the previous state and obtain the later state, and only the imperishable do not transmigrate, that is unreasonable. Just as in our school, when the moment of the fruit arises, one should know that the cause has perished, because it is close to the object, measure, shape, etc., like the nature of the fruit. Or, in order to prevent destruction, the characteristics of the body, senses, and mind, the conditioned phenomena, are definitely abiding, and in order to do the work of the purusha, the characteristics of other dharmas that appear and do not appear in a way that can accomplish the purpose of the purusha are completely transformed, and complete transformation is called transmigration. Complete transformation is also of those who are definitely abiding, and it is not desired to be of those who are destroyed at that time. Here, that is unreasonable, because it also shows that it possesses the dharma of appearing and not appearing, and is close to the object, etc.
