Therefore, that which arises from causes and conditions, its essence becomes something made. Among them, cause refers to the uncommon cause, as well as the self-defining cause, the immediately preceding condition, the similar cause, and the sole generating cause. Condition is the opposite of that, namely, the co-operative conditions. 'Made' is a synonym for artificial. Here, 'superior' means that by eliminating from the dissimilar side, the meaning of the term 'property of the subject' is manifested. For example, sound does not possess permanence, because permanence is something made. Permanence does not have the quality of being made, but sound has the quality of being made, therefore sound is impermanent, because it is made. Similarly, here also, essence should not arise from causes and conditions, because the essence that arises from causes and conditions becomes something made, and essence does not have the quality of being made, because essence is unmade. Because this has the quality of being made, therefore here the inference is that, in ultimate truth, the internal sense bases are not possessed of essence, because they arise from causes and conditions, like the objects created by illusion, such as people, livestock, wild animals, and birds. Whatever has essence does not arise, therefore it contradicts the dissimilar side. Here, some who want to refute those who do not understand the meaning of the words say that illusion is due to the complete grasping of mantras and medicines, from the very existence of clay, earth, roots, fruits, leaves, and so on, the appearance of forms such as elephants, therefore, the example has the fault of not possessing the property to be established. That is not reasonable, because the appearance as an elephant refers to the example of not having the essence of an elephant, not referring to roots and so on, and the essence of those roots and so on does not exist either, because their arising has been prevented, and the existence of earth and so on as substances has been prevented. Others say that as much as whatever arises from causes and conditions is the essence of things, therefore the meaning of the reason is contradictory. It is also uncertain, because some illusions and so on exist in both similar and dissimilar classes.

Therefore. Because it does not pervade all concordant instances, the meaning of the reason is not established. Because space and so on are unconditioned and do not arise from causes and conditions. That is not good either. The nature of things, such as illusion, dreams, and mirages, although they are considered to be made by causes and conditions, are called nature because others do not have them. For example, like the heat of fire, therefore, what is called nature is conventional truth, not ultimate truth. In ultimate truth, how can nature be something made? The very fact of being made is without nature, because it would not arise without it, so understand it that way. Therefore, since there is no discordant instance, the meaning of the reason is neither contradictory nor uncertain. It is also not the case that it does not pervade all concordant instances, because in conventional terms, unarisen phenomena such as space are not accepted as existing like rabbit horns. Even if it does not pervade all concordant instances, since there is no confusion about what is to be proven, it arises just as effort begins, and that is also a reason, and because it is not made into a subject at the same time, and because the unconditioned thing is not made into a subject, there is no fault. Now, if we examine the discordant instance, it is the opposite of that, because we want to speak of inference by the power of the dharma of the subject, so it is said. Nature is unconditioned and does not depend on others. Unconditioned is because it is not made by causes and conditions. Not depending on others is because it relies on a special expression and does not depend on others. Internal things are not unconditioned in that way, and do not depend on others, so what are they? They are conditioned and dependent. This shows that the dharma of things is something that can be done and is dependent. Therefore, in ultimate truth, inference is that internal things are all without nature, because they are conditioned and dependent on showing a special expression, like the people conjured by a magician. Whatever has nature, that
