Because there is contact, like milk and water. Or, the contact associated with that contact itself exists, because it is the ultimate expression, like being bound by iron chains and so on, so the ultimate expression of contact associated with contact also exists. Similarly, in reality, the contact associated with the contactor itself exists, because it can be expressed through a special expression, like the eater who relies on the special expression related to food, so the contactor who can be expressed through a special expression also exists. Therefore, it is said that the contact itself exists. Therefore, it is said in the scriptures: Like contact, the contactor, and the contactor do not exist. Please understand that, as the argument shown, others are impossible. Here, the meaning of the debate is to show that the self-nature of contact does not exist by refuting the errors of the argument first put forward by the other party. Therefore, completely overwhelming with one's own power, there is no contact or separation in form. Similarly, in feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, there is also no contact or separation. Whatever does not have contact or separation in form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness, that is the Prajnaparamita, and so on, these are all proven. The fourteenth chapter of the debate, called "Examination of Contact," from the Commentary on the Root Verses of the Middle Way, the Lamp of Wisdom, by Master Lekdenje, is completed. Now, similarly, in order to refute the differences in views that are incompatible with emptiness, in order to explain the meaning of dependent origination being uninterrupted and impermanent, the fifteenth chapter of the debate is begun. Here, the opponent says: You claim that all phenomena are without self-nature, which contradicts your own words, because it is equivalent to denying its own meaning, like saying "everything is false." Here, if it is said to be without self-nature, then how can it be a thing? If it is said to be a thing, then it is not without self-nature, therefore your vow

Therefore, there is a fault in slandering that meaning. Here it is said that in the ultimate sense, things have inherent existence, for example, like so-and-so, because there is no following after it; and, in the ultimate sense, things have been promised to have inherent existence, but have not been promised to be without inherent existence, therefore, since there is no slander of the promised meaning, it is not the case that the meaning of the proof is not established. In the conventional sense as well, there is no slander in the same way for promising the inherent existence of things to be like the inherent existence of illusion. And, since the answer has already been given by "dependent arising is unborn," there is no fault in this. Others who boast of being wise make other refutations, by what inherent existence do they consider to be without inherent existence? If it is said that the inherent existence fabricated by one's own conceptual thought is established as not established, then that is establishing what is already established. If it is said that the inherent existence that arises from causes and conditions is without inherent existence, then that is not reasonable, because it will be harmed by the harm of direct perception and common knowledge. Here it is said that in the ultimate sense, consciousness does not acknowledge the arising that focuses on the appearance of objects observed by conceptual thought; and, because the existence of things is prevented; and, because worldly conventions are not abandoned, there is no harm of direct perception and common knowledge, therefore, on our side, there is no harm of anything by anything. If you want to show that there is harm of direct perception, that is also not reasonable, if it is necessary to show that the object focused on by direct perception exists in direct perception, that is also not established. If in the ultimate sense only things exist in some way, then the arising of that which exists by its own nature becomes meaningless, because: inherent existence arises from causes and conditions, which is not reasonable. This is the remainder of the sentence "for the side that says inherent existence exists." Inherent existence is one's own nature, a synonym for "one's own self." Arising is production. If it is said that because seeing arising cannot be denied, then that also depends on other causes and conditions.
