No. Things should not be different from their own nature, so arising and ceasing should not be different. Thus, for what reason, arising and ceasing should not be the same nor different, therefore arising and ceasing are both unreasonable. If you think you see arising and ceasing, if you think like this, thinking that the arising and ceasing of all things are obvious, what other reason is needed for this? This is not reasonable. Why? Like this: Arising and ceasing are seen by ignorance. Ignorant people whose minds are obscured by ignorance think that they see arising and ceasing, and thinking like this, arising and ceasing should not be seen. Why? Like this: If arising and ceasing exist, then they depend on things or non-things. But things and non-things do not exist. If they do not exist, how can one see the arising and ceasing without a basis? Question: How do things and non-things not exist? Answer: Here, if things and non-things exist, then do they arise from things or from non-things? To this, things do not arise from things, and non-things do not arise from things. Things do not arise from real things, and non-things do not arise from non-real things. To this, for the moment, things do not arise from things. For example, a pot does not arise from the necessarily existing clay. If you think that a pot arises from processed clay, even so, when the clay is processed and stops, the pot arises, so things do not arise from things. For example, stopping and non-existence are not things, because things and non-things have different meanings. If you again think that the thing of clay itself is the pot, even so, things do not arise from things, because no other thing arises from outside the clay, because the clay itself is called the pot. To this, if you think that the thing of fruit arises from the thing of a tree, that is also not possible. Why? Because fruit is more than a tree.

Because it is unreasonable. Thus, for the time being, things do not arise from things. Non-things also do not arise from things, for example, the breaking of a pot does not arise from the pot being definitely existent, because definite existence does not have breaking. The breaking of a pot also does not arise from the thing of the pot, because breaking and non-existence are non-things. If one thinks that the non-thing of the pot arises from the thing of the hammer, that is also not right, for example, if the non-thing arises from the hammer, then the absence of the pot will also arise. If a non-thing arises, it will not become a non-thing itself, because there is arising. If there is nothing called arising, then it arises, who would believe in that? Therefore, non-things also do not arise from things. Things also do not arise from non-things, for example, a pot does not arise from the cessation of clay, because cessation is non-existent. If things were to arise from cessation and non-existence, then the arising of things would become causeless, which is undesirable, because at all times everything would arise from everything, and all actions would become meaningless. Therefore, things also do not arise from non-things, and non-things also do not arise from non-things. For example, non-things do not arise from the non-thing of a pot, the non-thing of a pot is merely the overturning of the pot, because there is nothing, and what is the meaning to be produced? If nothing were to arise from nothing, then the horns of a rabbit would also arise from the horns of a horse. If a non-thing is something, then because it is something, it is the thing itself, and not a non-thing. Therefore, non-things also do not arise from non-things. Furthermore, if things were to arise, would they arise from self, from other, or from both? To this, things do not arise from self, nor do they arise from other. How can arising from self and other produce something that does not exist? For the time being.
