If the previous aggregates do not perish, and relying on this aggregate, this aggregate does not arise, then the world would become finite. If the previous aggregates do not perish, and relying on this aggregate, this aggregate does not arise, then the world would become infinite. If the previous aggregates perish, and relying on these aggregates, those other aggregates do not arise, then the world would become finite, but because it is not so, it is unreasonable to say that the world is finite. If the previous aggregates do not perish, and relying on those aggregates, those later aggregates do not arise, then the world would become infinite, but because it is not so, it is also unreasonable to say that the world is infinite. The teacher Aryadeva also said: "Listeners and what is heard, speakers are very rare to appear, therefore, in short, samsara is neither finite nor infinite." Now, saying that the world is both finite and infinite is also unreasonable, why? It should be explained: If one side is finite, and one side is infinite, the world would become both finite and infinite, that is also unreasonable. If one side becomes finite, and one side becomes infinite, therefore the world becomes both finite and has, and neither has no boundary, then, things become two natures, that is unreasonable. For example, the taker, by what reason does one side perish, and one side does not perish? That is unreasonable. For example, the taken, by what reason does one side perish, and one side does not perish? That is also unreasonable. For the time being, by what reason will the taker perish on one side and not perish on one side? Because there is no permanence and impermanence, for the time being, that is unreasonable. By what means will the taken perish on one side and not perish on one side? Because permanence and impermanence are unreasonable, so that is also unreasonable.

So. Therefore, since the two natures of things are not reasonable, it is not reasonable to say that the world has an end and also has no end. Now it is also unreasonable to say that the world is neither finite nor infinite. Why? It will be explained: If it is said that finite and infinite, if both are established, then neither finite nor infinite, its establishment depends on intention. If it is said that finite and infinite, if these two are completely established, then therefore, saying neither finite nor infinite, this also depends on intention to be established, because finite and infinite, these two are not completely established, therefore, saying neither finite nor infinite is also not completely established. Therefore, through this examination, the four statements such as finite and infinite starting from the later extreme are all unreasonable. Or, all things, because of emptiness, views of permanence etc., in what place, to what thing, what views, for what reason do they universally arise? Or, all things, because of emptiness, regarding views of permanence etc., in which place, to which thing, which views, for what reason do they universally arise? Embracing with compassion, for the sake of abandoning all views, the one who teaches the sacred Dharma, Gautama, I prostrate to him. Embracing with compassion, for the sake of abandoning all views, the Buddha who manifested the sacred Dharma, supremely rare, inconceivable, incomparable, immeasurable, the same lineage as Gautama, I prostrate to him. The treatise called "Examination of Views," which is the twenty-seventh chapter, and also the last. The "Fundamental Wisdom of the Middle Way," called "Wisdom," is the Dharma of the Great Vehicle, is the manifestation of the scriptures, is the true manifestation of the ultimate truth, is the elucidation of the way of the Prajnaparamita. The great teacher, the noble Nagarjuna, possesses irrefutable wisdom and compassion, is the revealer of the Sugata's unsurpassed vehicle, having attained the Joyful Ground, went to the Pure Land of Sukhavati, called "Pure Light of the World Realm."

Composed by the Tathagata known as Jnana Utpatti Prabha (Wisdom Source Light). Its commentary, named Buddhapalita, elucidates the definitive meaning of the Mahayana, dispels the stains of wrong views, establishes the principles of the Prajnaparamita, and clarifies the ultimate truth. Acharya Venerable Buddhapalita, having composed explanations of numerous treatises, accomplished the teachings of the noble Manjushri, truly entered the Mahayana, and departed to a special place of mantra-holders' accomplishment, thus the composition is complete. The Indian Upadhyaya Jnana Garbha and the Lotsawa of Zhuchen, Chokro Luyi Gyaltsen, translated, revised, and finalized it. Buddhapalita's Commentary on the Root Verses of the Middle Way, by Buddhapalita.
