Merely the aggregates of the past. That indeed will completely cease. Children, obscured by ignorance, for the sake of rebirth, sentient beings, with hells and so forth, create the three kinds of actions with body, speech, and mind. How good and non-virtuous actions are truly created, whether great, medium, or small, will cause sentient beings to go to the various realms such as hell. Therefore, through the condition of actions, how consciousness enters the various realms, thereby forming name and form. If name and form are formed, then from the formation of name and form, the six sense sources will arise. Relying on the six sense sources, from that, contact will arise. The order of the arising of contact is this: it arises solely relying on name and form and attention. Thus, relying on name and form, consciousness will arise. Thus, the aggregation of these three, name, form, and consciousness, that is contact. From contact, feeling will universally arise. Conditioned by feeling, craving arises. Craving will arise for the meaning of feeling. If craving arises, then the four kinds of clinging will become clinging. If clinging exists, then the existence of the clinger will greatly arise. If clinging does not exist, then there will be liberation. In some cases, his existence will not arise. Because it is accompanied by clinging, therefore existence will arise. Know that that existence is also the five aggregates. From existence, birth will arise. From birth, old age and death, sorrow and lamentation, suffering and displeasure, and strife will arise. Thus, the aggregate of suffering, an unmixed collection of suffering, will arise. Therefore, the wise do not create the actions that are the root of cyclic existence. Therefore, the unwise are the creators of actions, but the wise are not. Why is that? Because they see that itself. If ignorance has not ceased, then actions will not arise either. Ignorance ceases

Becoming familiar with the knowledge of the twelve branches, that is, cultivating and habituating oneself to meditation, and making it firm. When a certain branch of existence ceases, the corresponding branch of existence will not manifest. Thus, the pure and unmixed heap of suffering and collection of suffering will completely cease and ultimately be extinguished. A thorough understanding of these twelve branches of existence should be obtained from the extensive Sutras and Abhidharma. Due to brevity, it is also briefly explained here. This is called "Examination of the Twelve Branches of Existence," which is the twenty-sixth chapter. Here it is stated: Now, please demonstrate, based on the edge of the Sutras that are in accordance with the Hearer Vehicle, that various views are impossible. Here it is explained: 'Born in the past' and so on, 'Unborn world is permanent' and so on, whatever views are these, they rely on the prior extreme. 'Will be born in the future' and so on, 'Unborn world' and so on, whatever views are these, they rely on the posterior extreme. In the Sutra called "Categories of the Cessation of All Defilements," it is said, 'I was born in the past,' and 'I was not born in the past,' because of this cause, whatever views hold that the world is permanent and so on, rely on the prior extreme. 'I will be born in the future,' and 'I will not be born in the future,' because of this cause, whatever views hold that the world has an end and so on, rely on the posterior extreme. These views are unreasonable. By what reasoning? It will be explained: 'Born in the past,' such a statement is unreasonable. What was born in past lives is not this one now. If you think that is the self, then the appropriation will become different. Apart from appropriation, who is your self? If you say there is no self apart from appropriation, then is appropriation itself the self? If appropriation itself is the self, then your self does not exist. Appropriation itself is not the self, because it is subject to arising and ceasing. How can appropriation become the appropriator?

I am not reasonably found elsewhere than in grasping. If there is no grasping elsewhere, it should be possible to grasp with the eyes, etc., but it is not graspable. Thus, having grasped, it is not other, nor is it the grasping itself. I am not without grasping, nor is it certain that it is non-existent. It is unreasonable to say that I appeared in a past time. Why? Because what appeared in previous lives is not this present self. If you think, 'If what appeared in previous lives is this present self, what fault would there be?' To this, it should be said: If what appeared in previous lives is this present self, then grasping should not become different, but grasping also becomes different, and it would also follow that there is a self without grasping. To this, can you say what your self is apart from grasping? I know that it is not reasonable in any way. If you think, 'There is no self apart from grasping,' then grasping itself should become the self, or your self is non-existent. To say that grasping itself is the self is also unreasonable. Why? Because grasping is something that arises and ceases, so it will become arising and ceasing. Such a thing is not the nature of the self. Also, furthermore, whatever is grasped, how can that itself become the grasper? Therefore, many faults will follow. If you think that the grasper is different from grasping, to this it should be said: I am not reasonably found apart from grasping. Why? If it is different, then even without grasping, it should be possible to grasp with the eyes, etc., but it is not graspable. Thus, I myself am not other than grasping, nor is it the grasping itself, nor is it without grasping, nor is it certain that it is entirely non-existent. Therefore, with this constant dharma, I in the past
