Therefore, the four kinds of clinging will also cease, and when clinging ceases, craving ceases. When existence ceases, birth ceases, and that is called liberation. Thus, seeing things as they truly are is the realization of that very thing, and by realizing that very thing, one attains liberation. Liberation comes from the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Karma and afflictions arise from conceptualization. Those elaborations arise from elaboration, and they cease in emptiness. Here, karma and afflictions are the cause of birth, therefore liberation is called the exhaustion of karma and afflictions. Those karma and afflictions also arise from unreal conceptualization, and they do not exist by their own nature. Afflictions arise from improper attention, for example, with respect to the same object, some become attached, some become angry, and some become deluded. Therefore, afflictions arise from conceptualization. Actions performed by body, speech, and mind with an afflicted mind are called karma, as the Blessed One also said: This person, endowed with disbelief and so on, also performs actions arising from merit. Thus, it is extensively taught. Therefore, karma and afflictions arise from the cause of unreal conceptualization. Those unreal conceptualizations arise from elaboration, that is, they arise from worldly elaboration. Those with minds that cling to worldly phenomena such as gain and loss, thinking that they are real, conceptualize them, therefore conceptualizations arise from elaboration. Elaboration ceases through emptiness, and worldly elaborations such as gain and loss cease through emptiness. The nature of things ceases when realized as emptiness, and it ceases after realizing emptiness. Therefore, emptiness is reality, and only by meditating on emptiness can one realize reality, and realizing reality is called liberation, as the noble teacher Aryadeva also said: In short

Anger is unhelpful, and nirvana is emptiness. The Thus-gone ones say that only these two exist here. Thus it is said. It is said: If there is no self and no mine in this way, then how do the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, show the self in this and that place? Answer: It is only selflessness. It should not be said that, because it is also said in the following: Thus it is not other than taking, nor is it the taking itself, I am not without taking, nor is it certain that there is none. However, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are skilled in knowing the thoughts and habits of sentient beings, and in order to prevent the manifest attachment of the trainees, they also establish and say "I", and also teach "no self". The Buddhas show self and no self, and none of them exist. For those who are to be tamed, they think that there is no this world, no other world, and no spontaneously born beings. When such a view arises, the mind is confused by the attachment to wrong views, disregarding the next life, not fearing to transcend the laws of the world, and sentient beings are clearly inclined to the great cliff of hell. In order to prevent their view of no self, it is also established and said "I". For those who are to be tamed, they think that who is the doer of good and bad deeds, who is the enjoyer of those karmic results, the enjoyer of desirable and undesirable results, and who can declare that the "I" of bondage and liberation exists. Otherwise, if there is no self, then all of this will become meaningless. When such a view arises, they will fall into the great ocean of samsara, be swallowed by the crocodiles of self-grasping and mine-grasping, their minds will be confused by the water of views, and they will be attached to the happiness of existence. In order to prevent their attachment to self, it is also taught "no self". For those who are good at taming, whose roots of virtue are complete, who are able to cross the river of existence, and who become vessels of the ultimate truth, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, the proclaimers of the ultimate truth, the great guides, say that this illusion is used to seduce children, and there is no self and no self in this.

There is nothing at all. Thus it is taught. The master Āryadeva also said: Neither existence nor non-existence, nor both, Nor neither of the two, he shows. Because of the power of disease, surely, Medicine will be suitable, like that. Thus he spoke. Or this is another, turning its back on seeing only that. Possessing the arrogance of appearing omniscient without being all-knowing, following one's own conceptual thoughts, without a self, all these are unreasonable. Some who are afraid also designate it as a self. Similarly, those without completely deluded intelligence, who act as aggregates in the world, and others with obscured karma and aggregates, also teach that there is no self. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, having attained the knowledge of unobstructed liberation, the all-knowing, all-seeing ones, wishing to benefit beings, therefore neither of those two exists. Thus it is definitely clarified. The Middle Way is neither self nor non-self; this exists, therefore this arises; this does not exist, therefore this does not arise. This is what is taught. Here it is said: Proliferation will cease through emptiness. What is the reason for what is said? Here it is explained: What is to be said ceases. Because one sees that all things are empty, what is to be said itself will cease. Therefore, proliferation will cease through emptiness. Thus, if there is something to be said, relying on it, proliferation will exist. If there is nothing to be said, how can proliferation without a basis exist? Said: How does that which is to be said cease? Explained: By the cessation of the object of the mind. The object of the mind is forms and so on, the objects. Because the object of his mind, forms and so on, has ceased, therefore what is to be said will cease. Thus, if what is to be said is forms and so on, then what is to be said? Said: How does the object of his mind, forms and so on, cease? Explained: Unborn and unceasing, the nature of reality is the same as nirvana. Because he sees exactly as it is, he fully understands that the nature of reality, unborn and unceasing, is the same as nirvana.
