What is real existence? Answer: Where is real existence? In order to dispel the clinging to real existence, let it be taken up by that! How to negate the emanation? With perfect miraculous power, emanate and also what is emanated, also emanate others. That emanation is also like others. Similarly, whatever action the agent does, that is also in the form of an emanation. For example, an emanation emanates another emanation, just like what the emanation does. Afflictions, actions, and bodies, etc., the agent and the result, are like a city of gandharvas, like mirages and dreams. Therefore, like that emanation, and emanation, the city of gandharvas, illusion, mirage, actions like dreams, and afflictions and bodies, agent and result, and eaters, etc., having complete discrimination, it is truly said to exist. Then, how can one say whether it exists or does not exist? Like this, all discriminations clinging to real existence and non-real existence are related to the faults of permanence and annihilation. And dependent origination is different from the views of real existence and non-real existence. Therefore, it is liberated from the faults of viewing permanence and annihilation. Therefore, what I say is that real existence is established dependently. This very certain view should be grasped. In this way, the explanations of the agent, action, result, eater, afflictions, and body are also reasonable, and it will not fall into the faults of permanence and annihilation, and samsara can also be established. This is called "Examining Action and Result," the seventeenth chapter is completed. Commentary on the Root Verses of the Middle Way by Buddhapālita, Volume Seven. Question: If the view of real existence and non-real existence leads to the fault of permanence and annihilation, then what is your reality? And how can that reality be realized? Please tell me. Answer: From the very beginning, that reality has been thoroughly explained. In short, whether internal or external, the view that there is no self and no self-belonging is the supreme reality. By meditating on that real view, that reality can be realized. Question: How can one view that there is no self and no self-belonging internally and externally?

Translation. Explanation. For those who wish to truly see it, one should correctly and separately examine with full awareness: What is the so-called "I"? Is it the five aggregates themselves? Or is it something other than the five aggregates? Is that "I" the five aggregates themselves? Is it merely becoming something different from the five aggregates? Here, all those who speak in other ways are merely reduced to saying "is other" and "is not other," and neither of these ways is reasonable. Why? If the five aggregates are the self, then there will be birth and death. If it is other than the five aggregates, it will lose the characteristics of the five aggregates. For the time being, if the five aggregates themselves are the self, then it will have the nature of birth and death, because the five aggregates have the nature of birth and death. In that case, it would also lead to the fault of having multiple "I"s, and saying "I" would also become meaningless, because the so-called "I" is merely another way of saying the five aggregates. Therefore, for the time being, saying "the five aggregates themselves are the self" is unreasonable. If it is said to be other than the five aggregates, then it will lose the characteristics of the five aggregates, because the characteristics of the five aggregates are birth and death. Therefore, since the "I" is other than the five aggregates, it will not have the characteristics of birth and death. In that case, it will become permanent. If the "I" is permanent, then all efforts will become meaningless, because what need is there to do anything to change something that is permanent? In that case, the idea that the "I" exists will also become meaningless, because it will not have any participation or change. Therefore, saying that the "I" is other than the five aggregates is also unreasonable. Having determined this with wisdom, one should also separately and correctly observe: If the "I" itself does not exist, then how can "mine" exist? Upon examination, if the "I" itself is unreasonable in any way, then how can "mine" exist? Just as the so-called "I" is the basis of "mine," if the "I" does not exist, then how can "this is mine" be reasonable? Therefore, "mine" is also unreasonable. Thus, not clinging to "I" and "mine" both internally and externally, that is the true view.

It is, therefore, one should cultivate and stabilize it. Because of cultivating and stabilizing it, the manifest clinging to self and what belongs to self will be pacified, for the sake of the pacification of self and what belongs to self, The clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self will disappear. Thus, for the sake of the pacification of the manifest clinging to self and what belongs to self, therefore the clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self will disappear. It is said: Whoever sees it as it truly is, the clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self will disappear. This is because it itself is the self, because of its existence, self and what belongs to self also necessarily exist. Explanation: The clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self do not exist, That also does not exist. Whoever sees without the clinging to self and the clinging to what belongs to self, He will not see. Thus, what is called no clinging to self and no clinging to what belongs to self also does not exist, this shows that it is established depending on close taking. For example, the Blessed One also said that this venerable one's name is this, and the clan is this, all of which are apart from close taking, there are no names and clans of the person. Therefore, it is only expressed by the power of close taking, but apart from that, there is nothing that will become without clinging to self and clinging to what belongs to self. If it exists, then if it exists, how can there be no clinging to self and no clinging to what belongs to self? If they exist and also disappear, then in that case, that is merely a wrong view of them, not the true view. The teacher Aryadeva also said: If there exists what is called self, What is called no-self is unreasonable. Or that itself is enlightenment, Or nirvana will become false because of that. Therefore, whoever sees without clinging to self and clinging to what belongs to self, that wrong view whose eye of wisdom is impaired, he will not see the truth at all. When self and what belongs to self are exhausted in all internal and external things, close taking will cease, and when that is exhausted, birth will also be exhausted. When the wrong view of what is called self and what is called what belongs to self is exhausted in all internal and external things, the one who takes closely does not exist, and what is to be taken closely also
