It will not change. Just as the state before possessing wealth is without wealth, that is being without wealth. Therefore, to this Dharma that is solely without an object of focus, you, through your own conceptualizations, conceive it as having an object of focus. To this, I shall explain: If Dharma is without an object of focus, how can there be an object of focus? The word "if so" is a question. "How can it change" indicates the reason. If Dharma is proven to be without an object of focus, why cling to a meaningless object of focus? It is said: You only misunderstand because you have not comprehended the essence of the scriptures. I do not say that having an object of focus is clinging to an object of focus, like possessing wealth. Its meaning is this: the basis upon which Dharma is established, that is its object of focus. Therefore, it closely shows that it is clinging to an object of focus. Refutation: That is unreasonable, and it needs further explanation. If Dharma is without an object of focus, how can there be an object of focus? If Dharma is without an object of focus, neither existing nor manifestly established, how can it be reasonable to have an object of focus? The so-called object of focus of Dharma is also merely not manifestly established. For something that is not manifestly established and does not exist, how can there be an object of focus? If there is no object of focus, how can Dharma be established through an object of focus? Therefore, the object of focus also does not exist, and Dharma is fundamentally not clinging to an object of focus. Here someone says: The moment one thing ceases, it is the cause for the arising of another thing. That is the so-called "immediate cause," it exists. Refutation: If phenomena have not arisen, cessation cannot be reasonable. Therefore, an immediate cause is unreasonable. If there is cessation, what then is the cause? To this, there are two fundamental subsequent verses. "If there is cessation, what then is the cause? Therefore, an immediate cause is unreasonable." One should look at it in reference to the added content. The word "if so" here should be viewed in relation to the unborn. That is, in relation to the word unborn, understand "If there is cessation, what then is the cause? What is the cause of the unborn?". These two are not arranged in order because of the combination of verses. The statement that the moment one thing ceases, it is the cause for the arising of another thing, is wrong.

It is not reasonable. Why? Like this: If phenomena are not born, then cessation is also not reasonable. If it ceases, then what is the cause? Cessation means non-existence. If the seed ceases before the sprout arises, then if the seed ceases and does not exist, what is the cause of the sprout arising? Or what is the cause of the seed's cessation? If the seed ceases and does not exist, how can it be the cause of the sprout's arising? When the sprout has not arisen, how can the seed's cessation be the cause? Therefore, if one thinks that the sprout arises after the seed ceases, then both of these will become causeless, and causelessness is not accepted. Someone says: If the seed ceases immediately when the sprout arises, then this can be established, because immediately when the sprout arises, it becomes the cause of the seed's cessation. Reply: That is also not reasonable. Why? Even if it arises, how can it be the cause? If the sprout arises and the act of the sprout arising is finally completed, then the seed ceases, then what is the cause of the cessation? What is the cause of the sprout's arising? Therefore, if it is like that, then both of these will become causeless as before. If one thinks that the sprout arises at the same time as the seed ceases, therefore it will not become a causeless cause, that is also not reasonable. Why? Because what ceases and what arises, both of these do not exist, because it has not ceased, and it has already arisen. If two things exist, how can it be the immediate cause? If one thinks that arising and ceasing occur at the same time, then immediately following is also not reasonable, because it is simultaneous. Therefore, immediately following is not reasonable. Thus, no matter how one examines it in every way, immediately following is not reasonable. Therefore, it is not reasonable to say that there is an immediate cause. Or, this is another point, that things are unborn, which has been proven before. Therefore, the unbornness of things has been established. It is said: If phenomena are not born, then cessation is also not reasonable. Things are unborn and non-existent.
