Commentary: Even so, things should not be established. Why? Because non-things are not fully established. Apart from self-nature and other things, where are things to be found? This has already been said. Therefore, if things are not established, non-things will not be established either. If things themselves are not at all fully established, then non-things will not be established either, is that not what is said? Why? People say that when a thing changes into something else, it is a non-thing. Thus, whatever a thing changes into, that is a non-thing. If people say this, then the thing itself does not exist either. If the thing does not exist, then to what does the non-thing belong? If the thing does not exist, then how can your opponent, the thing, be established? It is said: By seeing this as it is, one will be liberated. The term "as it is" refers to the nature of things, which is synonymous with "the self-nature of things." If the self-nature of things does not exist, then how can you have a true vision of it? If you do not have a true vision of it, how can you attain liberation? Therefore, the view that things are without self-nature is not good. Commentary: Do not misunderstand! Those who cling to things themselves, other things, things, and non-things, do not truly see the Buddha's teachings. Those who cling to self-nature, other things, things, and non-things in this way do not truly see the profoundly subtle teachings of the Buddha. We, because the sun of dependent origination has risen and illuminated, have truly seen the self-nature of all things as empty, just as it is. Therefore, we alone have a true vision, and therefore liberation is appropriate for us alone. If you ask why, it is because the Blessed One, skilled in explaining the ultimate truth, refuted both existence and non-existence in the *Katyayanavavada Sutra*. Because the Blessed One is skilled in the ultimate truth and is skilled in explaining things and non-things, in the *Katyayanavavada Sutra*, he refuted "existence."

Because both existence and non-existence have been refuted, therefore, those who follow things and see them as existence and non-existence, because they do not see the true nature, liberation is not reasonable for them. For us, who do not cling to existence and non-existence and make nominal designations, there is nothing unreasonable. If seeing things and non-things is the only true seeing, then for the true seeing, there will be nothing unseen, so that is not the only seeing. Therefore, the selflessness of things is the only true nature, and only seeing it will lead to liberation. As the teacher Aryadeva said: 'The seed of existence is consciousness, objects are its field of activity, if one sees no self in objects, the seed of existence will be extinguished.' It should be understood that this is definitely the case. Otherwise, if the self-nature is existent, then it will not become non-existent. If things are inherently existent, then that which is inherently existent will not later become non-existent. Why? Because, the self-nature changing to something else is never reasonable. Because the antidote to change is self-nature, therefore, self-nature is unchanging and permanent. However, things appear to change, therefore, it is not reasonable for them to be inherently existent. Here it is said: If one understands that things are not inherently existent from seeing that things are non-existent, then for a while things become non-things. Answer: If self-nature is not existent, then whose is the change? When it is said that the existence of things is not inherently existent, if the existence of things is not inherently existent, then whose is the change itself? Question: If the non-existence of things appears, and self-nature is also not existent, then the non-existence of things is unreasonable, because the self-nature of that thing that becomes non-existent must be existent. Answer: If self-nature is existent, then how can it change? It has been said before that self-nature changing to something else is
