How then can things be established? It is said: The other thing that, in dependence upon which, that becomes a thing, is for the time being existent. If the other thing is thoroughly established, then the own-being will also become thoroughly established. Explanation: Even in dependence upon an opponent, the own-being is not established. Why? Because the other thing is not established. If the own-being is not existent, how can the other thing exist? If the own-being were thoroughly established, then its opponent, the other thing, would also have to exist. But the own-being is not established; if the own-being is not existent, how can the other thing exist? If that other thing does not exist, how can its opponent, the own-being, be established? Furthermore, the own-being is not other than the other, nor is the other thing other. Why? Like this: The own-being of the other thing is said to be the other thing. Like this, whatever is the own-being of the other thing, that is said to be the other thing. Therefore, if the other thing is merely without own-being, by what will it exist? Therefore, it is not established that the own-being is other than the other, nor that the other thing is other. In that case, opposition itself does not exist, because they are one. If there is no opposition, how can it be established in dependence upon an opponent? It is said: The own-being of things exists, does not exist. What is the use of this to me? For the time being, things exist. Explanation: Apart from own-being and other-thing, where do things exist? If own-being and other-thing exist, things will be established. If some thing were to exist, it would have to be either own-being or other-thing. Therefore, if own-being and other-thing exist, things will be established. When own-being does not exist, and other-thing also does not exist, then apart from own-being and other-thing, how could that unspeakable thing, that unique thing which is neither self nor other, possibly exist? It is said: In that case, the non-thing of all things exists, and the non-thing also acts independently, because the thing by which a thing becomes a non-thing also exists.
