If it does not change into something else even by relying on it, how can it be called something else? Explanation: Dependent origination is of such a nature. Because it is temporarily called "other" by relying on something else, therefore, in worldly terms, it is said to be "other." If it is examined as it truly is, otherness does not exist in the other. It does not exist in the non-other either. Because the pot is called "other" in relation to the pillar, it is because of relying on the pillar, depending on the pillar, and because it is not completely established from itself, otherness does not exist in the pot. Because the pot that does not rely on the pillar is called "non-other" alone, and the otherness that does not conform to the non-other does not exist, therefore, from the ultimate point of view, there is no other. Therefore, the Bhagavan also taught the aggregate of the water tree, the aggregate of the water tree is hollow, and because its essence cannot be realized, it is also taught that there is nothing. Question: If the pot is not other in that way, then the pot itself will become non-other, because without other there is no non-other, so it will also become other. Answer: From the point of view of the opponent, otherness is also unreasonable. Why? Because non-other is unreasonable. Just like this, if it becomes non-other by relying on other, then that otherness is also unreasonable if examined. Otherness does not exist. Other or that itself does not exist. If that otherness does not exist, then its opponent non-other does not exist either, and if non-other does not exist, then its opponent other does not exist either, wouldn't it be taught like that? Another question: It is not by relying on other that it becomes other, but what is called otherness is a generality, and it becomes other by possessing it. Answer: If it becomes other by possessing otherness, then because it is not completely established from itself. Isn't it only by relying on other that it becomes other? Question: Otherness is only definitely present in the other, so what need is there to rely on it? Answer: Otherness does not exist in the other. What you said, that otherness is only definitely present in the other, is unreasonable. Because otherness does not exist in the other. Why? Because

Ra. It does not exist even in the non-other. Here, since a pot is not other than its own nature, otherness that is incompatible with non-otherness does not exist in it. If that otherness were to necessarily abide in the other, then the pot would also become other than its own nature and would not be included as non-other. It is not accepted that the pot becomes other than its own nature. Therefore, since the pot does not exist in the non-other, it also does not exist in the other. If it did exist, it would exist in all circumstances. If one thinks that the pot has otherness because it is other in relation to cloth, then that otherness is dependent and not necessarily abiding. Therefore, things exist dependently. Establishing otherness and claiming that it can be found is also unreasonable, because it contradicts one's own tenets. Furthermore, if there are two things, they will meet, but if there are none, they will not meet. Therefore, if something that is temporarily not other in its essence becomes other because it possesses otherness, how does it become other? Just as water mixed with milk does not become milk, and milk does not become water. If the pot is other in its essence, then why is it necessary to seek otherness in the other? Therefore, saying that it becomes other because it possesses otherness, and saying that otherness necessarily abides in the other, is not reasonable. It is said: Whether otherness necessarily abides in the other or not, the other that you consider to be otherness exists for the time being. It is explained: Are you trying to run around the world? Are you trying to establish the other without otherness? Otherness does not exist. The other or that itself does not exist. If the object of the other does not have otherness, then is it not merely showing that the other or that itself does not exist? If one becomes other even without the object of the other, then you will become foolish even without the object of foolishness. If you do not want that, then without the object of the other, one will not become other. Therefore, if examined in this way, otherness is in no way reasonable for all things. If there is no otherness,

How do things like seeing and desires meet each other? If there is no meeting, how can the nature of things arising from your reason of meeting be reasonable? If you think in your mind that it is both other and this, then even so, meeting is unreasonable. Why? Because that does not meet with that. Other and other will not meet either. Therefore, for the moment, that itself is unreasonable to meet with that. Why? Because it is merely that, and because it does not accord with the meaning of being together. If even so, it were to meet, then there would be nothing that does not meet, and that is not desired. Therefore, it is unreasonable to meet with that itself. That, to what is said, "This is other, and this is also other," it is also unreasonable to meet with that which exists. Why? Because it is solely other. If even that which is solely other were to meet, then in that case, there would be nothing that does not meet, and that is also unreasonable. Therefore, even if it is solely other, meeting is unreasonable. Said: What is it that two things that have become other become one? For example, just as milk and water meet, other and other will not meet either. Explained: To this, that itself remains. When milk and water become different, at that time there is no meeting. Why? Because they have become different. When they become one, at that time also, there is no meeting. Why? Because it is one. Said: When does becoming one itself constitute meeting? Explained: If even being one itself were to meet, then wouldn't there be nothing that does not meet, as has been said? Therefore, that is not good either. Said: Things that have become other that are in the process of meeting constitute meeting. Explained: To this, that itself remains. If the things called "in the process of meeting" were to exist as one, then to that also, "This is other, and this is also other," because it is other, meeting is unreasonable. If that which is called "in the process of meeting" is said to be one itself, then the term "in the process of meeting" is unreasonable. How can one itself meet?
