it will also become meaningless. Therefore, the nature of things does not exist in conditions, etc. If it does not exist in conditions, etc., then it is not the existence of self, because it cannot be fully observed from those others. If the existence of self does not exist, then the existence of other does not exist. If the existence of other does not exist, then who is qualified to say that things are produced from other? What is the use to us of saying here that things are produced from self and other, etc.? For example, eyes, etc. are the cause of the production of consciousness. How is that? Here, the action of birth is production, birth, and emergence, which are mainly related to consciousness. Consciousness is birth. For example, eyes, etc. are what accomplish the action of the production of consciousness, and because they accomplish it, they are the cause. For example, the action of cooking is cooking and boiling, which is mainly related to rice, and rice is cooking. People, utensils, water, fire, stoves, etc., each doing their own work, are seen as the causes of accomplishing that action of cooking. Here it is said that action does not possess cause. To this, you say that eyes, etc. are what accomplish the action of the production of consciousness, therefore they are the cause of consciousness, and that itself is also related to consciousness. If the action is examined, this is unreasonable, how can eyes, etc. be what accomplish that action? If you ask why, therefore it is said here that the action of birth is either related to unproduced consciousness or to produced consciousness. To this, it is temporarily not related to the unproduced, because there is no place. Like this, the action of birth is related to the place of consciousness. Because it is not related to what has no place, the unproduced consciousness is also non-existent, and if it does not exist, how can the action of birth exist there? The action of birth is also not related to the produced consciousness, why? Because consciousness has already been produced. Like this, for what has already been produced, there is no further production. To this, someone might think

If one thinks that the arising consciousness has the act of arising, that is also not permissible. Why? Because there is no arising apart from what has arisen and what has not arisen. That the act of arising does not apply to the two, what has arisen and what has not arisen, has already been explained, therefore there is no act of arising. This also eliminates the act of cooking. Therefore, it is unreasonable for an act to be associated with conditions. If someone thinks that there is an act that is not associated with conditions, then the answer is: "Not associated with conditions, there is no act." (Verse) Like this, there is no act that is not associated with conditions. If it existed, then all things would constantly arise from all things. If that were the case, then all efforts would become meaningless, and that is also undesirable. Therefore, an act that is not associated with conditions is also unreasonable. Here someone says: For the moment, let us say that conditions do exist. Because of their existence, things are accomplished. When things are accomplished, arising is also accomplished. The answer is: "Without action, not a condition." (Verse) Those that have no action are not conditions. How so? For example, the eye and so on accomplish the act of arising, and therefore become conditions for consciousness. But the act of arising is unreasonable, as has already been explained in detail. Because it does not exist, it is absurd to think that there is something that accomplishes it. Because there is nothing that accomplishes it, the eye and so on are not conditions for the act of arising. If it is not a condition for the act of arising, how can it be a condition? If it were a condition, then everything would be a condition for everything. If that were the case, then everything would arise from everything, but that would not happen. Therefore, those that are not associated with action are not conditions. Someone says: Am I saying that conditions are not associated with action? No, conditions are only associated with action. The answer is: "Associated with action or when?" Connecting this question with the previous situation, conditions are not associated with action. That action is not associated with conditions, and that there is nothing not associated with conditions, has already been explained in detail. If there is no action, how can conditions be associated with action? In that case, because a condition that is not associated with action is also unreasonable, and there is also nothing associated with action, therefore the discrimination of conditions
