Do you think that the unconditioned can accomplish the conditioned? Since the conditioned is not fully accomplished, how can the unconditioned be accomplished? If you think that it can be accomplished from an antidote, then the antidote to the unconditioned is the conditioned. Since it has already been shown that it is not accomplished, how can the conditioned be fully accomplished so that the unconditioned becomes fully accomplished? Or, how can the conditioned be fully accomplished from the unconditioned? What do you have to say about that? Reply: If you do not have arising, abiding, and ceasing, then the conditioned would not exist. But, how is it that it is said, "Alas! Conditioned things are impermanent; they are of the nature of arising and ceasing"? Explanation: Like a dream, like an illusion, like a city of gandharvas, it is said that they arise, abide, and cease. Just as seeing a dream, creating an illusion, and a city of gandharvas are said to arise, abide, and cease, but they do not have any arising, abiding, or ceasing, so too, the Blessed One spoke of the arising, abiding, and ceasing of conditioned things, but they do not have any agent of arising, abiding, or ceasing. Similarly, the Blessed One showed that conditioned things are without self by examples such as illusions, echoes, reflections, mirages, dreams, bubbles, and plantain trees. In these, there is no suchness or non-erroneous suchness at all. These are not real, and these are also false. It is also said that all phenomena are without self, and that without self means without essence, because the word "self" is a word for essence. Therefore, the words of arising, abiding, and ceasing of conditioned things are established as conventional truth. This is called the examination of arising, abiding, and ceasing, which is the seventh chapter. Question: By your examination of arising, abiding, and ceasing, you have made my mind inclined to listen to emptiness. Therefore, now it is appropriate to examine the agent and the action. Answer: Let it be done as you wish.

It is said. Here, all good and bad deeds are fully shown, and their satisfactory and unsatisfactory results are also shown. Similarly, the doers of good and bad deeds are also shown. It also profoundly shows its results, that without a doer, karma is unreasonable, and without karma, the result is also unreasonable. Thus, since the doer and karma exist, it is reasonable that all things can be perfectly accomplished. Explaining, if a doer creates karma, then does he create something that already exists, or does he create something that does not yet exist? Is karma also created as something that already exists, or as something that does not yet exist? To this, the doer who already exists does not create the karma that already exists. The doer who does not yet exist does not create the karma that does not yet exist. The doer who already exists does not create the karma that already exists. The doer who does not yet exist does not create the karma that does not yet exist. Why? Like this, there is nothing to be done for what already exists, and karma also has no doer. There is nothing to be done for what already exists, and the doer also has no karma. Here, only by possessing action can one become a doer, like this, only the doer is the doer, and the non-doer is not. Therefore, the doer who possesses action is called the doer who already exists, and for the doer who already exists, what karma is there to do? There is no other action. If it exists, it will become two actions, and one doer cannot have two actions. Furthermore, karma also has no doer. For the other doer who does nothing, if it is thought that karma exists, then there is also no doer there. Why? If the doer creates karma, then karma becomes the doer of the doer, and the doer's creation also associates karma with the doer, and if separated from action, the doer will not create that karma, therefore, that karma becomes without a doer. Similarly, for the karma that already exists, there is nothing to be done, and here, only by possessing action can one become karma, like this, only action is karma, and non-action is not. Therefore, all
