Because it doesn't exist. If what is already born were to be born again, then it would never not be born, which is undesirable. Therefore, what is born is not made to be born. What is unborn is also not made to be born, why? Because it doesn't exist. What is there in the unborn that can be made to be born? If even without existence it could be born, then a rabbit's horn should also be able to be born, but it will not be born. Therefore, what is born is also not made to be born. What is in the process of being born is also not made to be born, because there is nothing in the process of being born other than what is already born and what is not yet born, and because it would lead to the fallacy of two births. By virtue of what does it become something in the process of being born? And by virtue of what does it cause to be born? So it is said. Furthermore, this which is called being born, is it that a small part of it is born and a small part is not born? Or is it something else, born or unborn? If that is the case, if the born and the unborn are made to be born by birth, then for the moment, that small part of it that is born is not caused by that birth, and what is born is not in the process of being born, why? Because if it is born, it is not in the process of being born, and what is in the process of being born causes to be born. That is also why it is said. If that small part that is born is born only as unborn, then the remainder of it will certainly be born in the same way, only as unborn. Or, what difference is there to be stated between that small part of it that is born only as unborn and the small part that is caused to be born by birth? If that small part of it that is born is also caused to be born only by birth, then it is the unborn that causes to be born by birth, and not what is in the process of being born that causes to be born. Furthermore, that small part of it that is born is not caused to be born by birth, because it is already born. Therefore, whatever remainder of it is unborn is caused to be born by birth. It will become like that, then what was said, that what is in the process of being born causes to be born, has failed. If that small part of it that is born also causes to be born, then it would become a special case caused by two births, but it will not become like that, because it is already born.

Because it does not do anything for the sake of re-arising, therefore it does not re-arise. Therefore, what is arising causes to arise. To say "what is arising causes to arise" is merely to take what is without essence as essence. Question: The arising of things like pots is also observable, and engaging in actions for the sake of things like pots is also apparent, therefore, if there is arising, it should be said that relying on arising, depending on arising, what is arising causes to arise. Answer: When arising exists, this arising thing arises; when arising does not exist, how can one rely on arising and say that what is arising causes to arise? Question: How can it not exist? Answer: For example, relying on the arising of wool, what is arising? Question: The wool itself is arising. Answer: If the wool is wool in the state of arising, then for it, relying on arising and saying that what is arising causes to arise, what is the use of this arising? This is unreasonable, because there is no difference between what has arisen and what is arising. Therefore, what is arising is not wool. Question: For example, what has arisen is wool, relying on what has arisen, as long as the work of inspection is not finished, it is always arising. Answer: That's right. If what is not wool when it is arising, how will it become wool when it has arisen? Like this, when it is being made into something else, it will not become something else. If it becomes something else, then it will become wool when weaving, if it does not become wool, then what has arisen is also not wool. If that wool does not exist, then relying on the arising of what thing, what will become arising? Question: Are you skilled in using weapons, trying to attack me? You are addicted to arguing, where are you going to lead the reasoning of dependent origination? Answer: That is not the reasoning of dependent origination, because for those who speak of dependent origination, the arising of things does not exist either, the arising of things
