It makes it appear. Speak of that! Said: It is the illuminator by dispelling darkness. Here, as the lamp is being produced, it dispels darkness and makes it appear, so it is the illuminator. To that, what is it that dispels darkness? It is the lamp itself and the nature of others that appear, so it is said. Where there is a lamp and anything else, there is no darkness where they gather. It is also said that, as the lamp is being produced, it dispels darkness, so there is no darkness in the nature of the lamp itself and others. Because there is no darkness, it is indeed the illuminator. Thus, because it dispels darkness, the lamp makes the nature of itself and others appear. Just as the lamp is, so also does production produce the nature of itself and others, which is reasonable. Said: As the lamp is being produced, it dispels darkness. Speak of that! How does the lamp, as it is being produced, dispel darkness? When the lamp is being produced, it does not meet with darkness. Since the lamp and darkness cannot exist together, the lamp is being produced and does not meet with darkness, so how does the lamp, as it is being produced and not meeting with darkness, dispel darkness? Even without the lamp meeting, if it dispels darkness, then all the darkness that exists in the world, would surely be dispelled by this lamp staying here. If the lamp dispels darkness even without meeting it, then all the darkness that exists in the world would be dispelled by the lamp staying here. Similar to not meeting, some dispel and some do not dispel, what is the difference? Also, if the lamp makes the objects of itself and others appear, then there is no doubt that darkness also obscures the objects of itself and others. Here, the lamp is the opponent of darkness, so if the lamp makes the objects of itself and others appear, then darkness must also obscure the objects of itself and others, there is no doubt about this, but darkness does not obscure the objects of itself and others. If it obscures, then like other things, darkness itself would become invisible. If darkness is invisible, then things...

If darkness were always apparent, things would always be non-apparent, therefore darkness would not obscure one's own and others' things. If that were the case, as an antidote to darkness, a lamp would also not make one's own and others' things apparent, so like a lamp, would birth also produce one's own and others' self-nature? What has been said is not reasonable. Furthermore, if birth produces its own self-nature, is it produced by what is born or by what is unborn? Neither is reasonable. How so? This birth, by what is unborn, how does it produce its own self-nature? This birth is unborn and non-existent, how does it produce its own self-nature? Or by whom is this unborn and non-existent self-nature produced? If even non-existence could produce a non-existent self-nature, then a rabbit's horn could also produce a self-nature, but it does not. Therefore, birth does not produce self-nature by what is unborn. To this, if one thinks that birth produces self-nature by what is born, then it should be said: If what is born produces, then what is there to produce if it is already born? If birth is already born, then birth produces self-nature by what is born, this is a meaningless statement, why do such a meaningless thing? For what has already been born, what is the use of birth? Therefore, for the time being, what is born does not produce self-nature. Does birth produce others? What has been said is also unreasonable. Thus, if birth produces others, then is that other to be produced by birth born, unborn, or in the process of being born? To this, what is born, unborn, or in the process of being born, in no way can it produce. Birth in no way can reasonably produce. What is unborn also cannot produce, and what is in the process of being born also cannot produce. How so? It is explained: The gone and the not-gone are explained by walking. Just as there is no walking for what is gone, because the action of walking has passed. Similarly, what is born also cannot produce, because the action of birth has passed.
