Likewise, if a dharma is definitely arising, then is it the very definite arising of that dharma? If a dharma is not definitely arising, then the very non-definite arising of that dharma arises; these are temporarily called a cycle. That is the arising of arising, the abiding of abiding, the disintegration of disintegration, the possessing of possessing, the aging of aging, the true liberation of true liberation, or the perverted liberation of perverted liberation, the very definite arising of the very definite arising? The very non-definite arising of the very non-definite arising also arises; these are called the cycle of cycles. Thus, the arising of dharma arises with itself and fifteen others. Among them, whatever is the root arising, it produces the self of that dharma and the fourteen as described above, except for itself. The arising of arising produces only the root arising; thus, one produces one, so it will not become endless. Similarly, the root abiding also causes the abiding of abiding to abide, and the abiding of abiding also causes the root abiding to abide. The root disintegration also causes the disintegration of disintegration to disintegrate, and the disintegration of disintegration also causes the root disintegration to disintegrate, so in this way, this will also not become infinitely faulty. The debater said: If your arising of arising, produces the root arising, your son did not produce it, how does it produce it? If your arising of arising produces the root arising, then how does the arising that your root arising did not produce produce that root arising? Because it itself did not arise. The respondent said: The arising that the root arising produced, the arising of arising produces the root arising, but what is not produced does not produce. The debater said: If your root, the producer uses it to produce the root, then how does the root that it did not produce produce it? If the arising of arising produced by your root arising produces the root arising, then the root arising that the arising of arising did not produce produces the arising of arising.

How does that arise? In that case, it is interdependent. Things that are interdependent are absolutely impossible to be permanent. Reply: The arising itself is arising, so the arising of arising causes arising, but what is unarisen does not. Explanation: Your that is arising, If that which is unarisen, Is able to cause that to arise, Then it depends on wanting to cause it to arise. Your root arising, that which is arising, that which is itself unarisen, if it is able to cause the other arising of arising, then the arising of arising depends on wanting to cause it to arise. Or your arising of arising, that which is arising, that which is itself unarisen, if it is able to cause the other root arising, then the root arising depends on wanting to cause it, but that is not possible. Like this, since it is itself unarisen and non-existent, how can it cause others to arise? Therefore, that is merely a conceptualization. Reply: It is not caused to arise by other arising, but arising itself should cause both self and others to arise. How is it? Just as a lamp, self and other, Causes to appear, so too, Arising also, the things of self and other, Both are caused to arise. Just as a lamp also causes its own self to appear, and also causes other things such as a vase and felt to appear, so too, arising also causes its own self to arise, and also causes other things such as a vase and felt to arise. Explanation: If a lamp is able to cause the selves of self and other to appear, then arising also, like a lamp, should cause the selves of self and other to arise, if that is the case, a lamp does not cause the selves of self and other to appear. Why? Like this, A lamp and whatever, Where it is, there is no darkness. Here, whatever is unmanifest, that is what is to be manifested, obscured by darkness, so it is unmanifest, but for a lamp there is no darkness, therefore for a lamp there is no unmanifest. Whatever is said to cause others to appear, that is also unreasonable. A lamp enters other selves, there is also no darkness there. Because there is no darkness, so in those places there is also no unmanifest. Well then, if there is no unmanifest in the selves of self and other, what does a lamp manifest?
