it will be accomplished. What is the difference? That is, arising, abiding, and ceasing. Explanation: That is unreasonable. Why? Thus, that which causes the arising of a pot and its manifestation and accomplishment does not cause the arising of anything else. That which causes the pot to abide does not cause anything else to abide. That which causes the pot to cease does not cause anything else to cease. Reply: They cause the pot itself to arise, abide, and cease, so there is no fault. Explanation: Then, they are not the nature of the pot, because they are agents. For example, the parents who cause the arising are not the nature, and the foundation and hammer are not the nature of the pot. Therefore, if arising and so on are conditioned phenomena, then they should not be the nature of conditioned phenomena. If one completely thinks that arising is unconditioned, then it should also be explained thus: Thus, conditioned phenomena are the nature. If it is unconditioned, how can it become the nature of conditioned phenomena? If it is the nature by indicating this, then that which is separated from arising, abiding, and ceasing will not indicate itself. That which does not indicate itself, how does it indicate others? If it indicates, then Nirvana (Sanskrit: Nirvāṇa) unconditioned should also become the nature of conditioned phenomena, which is not allowed. Therefore, if arising, abiding, and ceasing are unconditioned, then they should not be the nature of conditioned phenomena. If the nature is examined, then will arising, abiding, and ceasing, either individually or collectively, become the nature of conditioned phenomena? To this: The three, arising, etc., individually, cannot resemble the characteristics of conditioned phenomena. Even if they are collective, how can they coexist at one time? Arising and abiding, arising and abiding and ceasing, each one cannot be the nature of conditioned phenomena. "Cannot" is a synonym for "not allowed" and "unable." How is it? In this case, for the time being, the object does not manifestly exist, and for non-existent things, arising, abiding, and ceasing are unreasonable. Thus, arising, abiding, and ceasing depend on things.

It is the basis. If it is said that the arising of a pot, the abiding of a pot, and the ceasing of a pot, if that pot is not manifestly established, then what nature will arising, abiding, and ceasing become? That ceasing means destruction and non-existence. Where does that exist? That is non-existence itself. If that does not exist, then what nature will arising, abiding, and ceasing become? Therefore, for the time being, arising, abiding, and ceasing, either individually or collectively, are not the nature of things not being manifestly established and destruction. If one thinks that those are the nature of things being manifestly established and not being destroyed, that is also unreasonable. Why? Because for the existence of the thing called a pot here, there is no arising. Like this, for existence, there is also no action of arising. If existence also arises, then it will never become non-arising, which is not desirable. Therefore, for existence, there is no arising. How can that which does not exist become a nature? Reply: For the time being, abiding exists. Explanation: Abiding is also unreasonable. Why? Because it is connected with destruction. Like this, conditioned phenomena are connected with impermanence and momentariness. If it is momentarily impermanent, how can it abide? Because abiding and destruction are contradictory. Like this, it is also said below: If things will cease, then abiding is not reasonable. Whatever does not cease, that thing is not reasonable. Thus it appears. Master Aryadeva also said: Where does a thing without abiding exist? Because of impermanence, where does it abide? If it abides in the beginning, then it will not become old in the end. If momentary impermanence exists, momentariness will not abide. Or from being permanent, it will also become impermanent later. If a thing is impermanent and abiding together, either impermanence will be reversed, or abiding will become false. Thus he said. Therefore, abiding is also non-existent. If it does not exist, then how can anything become the nature of conditioned phenomena? Reply: Then destruction exists. Explanation: Without abiding, how can destruction exist? Like this, if a thing abides, it will be destroyed. If abiding does not exist, how can it be destroyed? That is also called destruction.
