That which clearly knows and distinguishes between existence and non-existence, that is temporarily existent. Because of its existence, existence and non-existence are completely established. Explanation: Existence and non-existence are incompatible dharmas. By what are existence and non-existence known? Incompatible dharmas are those irreversible dharmas. The incompatible dharma of existence and non-existence is the incompatible dharma of existence and non-existence. What is the incompatible dharma of existence and non-existence? It is neither existence nor non-existence. If one of them were to exist, would it be the dharma of existence or the dharma of non-existence? That which is neither the dharma of existence nor the dharma of non-existence, that itself does not exist. If there is no dharma that is incompatible with existence and non-existence, then by what is existence and non-existence known? In that case, knowing existence and non-existence is also impossible. Therefore, space is not existence, not non-existence, not a basis for characteristics, not a characteristic. Therefore, if examined, the basis for characteristics and characteristics do not exist, and other things besides the basis for characteristics and characteristics also do not exist. If there is no thing, then non-existence also does not exist. Therefore, space is neither existence nor non-existence, neither a basis for characteristics nor a characteristic. If space were to exist even slightly, would it become any of these four? These four also do not exist, therefore space does not exist. The five elements, anything else is also the same as space. The meaning of "the same as space" is: the same as space, just as examining space is neither existence nor non-existence, neither a basis for characteristics nor a characteristic, space is nothing, similarly, the other five elements such as earth are also neither existence nor non-existence, neither a basis for characteristics nor a characteristic, because no thing exists, therefore the elements also do not exist. Said: Regarding this, the Buddha

If the teachings of the Blessed Ones mostly rely on the aggregates, elements, and sources, then if the aggregates, elements, and sources themselves do not exist, wouldn't these teachings become meaningless? If these teachings should not become meaningless, then how should it be explained? Answer: I do not say that the aggregates, elements, and sources do not exist, but rather I eliminate the view that they exist. Both of these views are great faults, as it is said below: "Grasping at 'existence' is to hold to permanence; grasping at 'non-existence' is to hold to annihilation. Therefore, the wise should not abide in existence or non-existence." The Blessed One also said to Katyayana, "This world abides in two extremes: mostly clinging to 'existence' and 'non-existence'." Therefore, I, through dependent origination, am free from the faults of 'existence' and 'non-existence', neither annihilation nor permanence, but thoroughly reveal that I do not say 'non-existence'. Therefore, the teachings that we give relying on the aggregates, elements, and sources will not become meaningless. Those with little wisdom, regarding phenomena, cling to 'existence' or 'non-existence', their vision cannot see the peace of nirvana. Those with little wisdom, if they do not understand the profoundly subtle dependent origination, then clinging to 'existence' or 'non-existence' regarding phenomena, with the eye of wisdom blinded by annihilationism and eternalism, they cannot see the peaceful nirvana that should be seen. Therefore, those who do not see the truth as it is, delighting in elaboration, with minds full of joy, their teachings relying on the aggregates, elements, and sources will become meaningless. Therefore, this is the ultimate truth, do not be afraid. Question: Why is the space element analyzed first? When teaching the elements, the earth element should be taught first, so the earth element should be analyzed first. Answer: The unknown should be thoroughly proven by the well-known. The world mostly believes that space is nothing, for example, some speakers say, 'All elaborations are space.'
