That which causes confusion exists; it is something that exists. Thus, one discerns individually. So it is said. It is said: You have temporarily blocked seeing, but hearing and so on have not been blocked, therefore hearing and so on exist, so things exist. It is said: Through seeing, hearing, and smelling, experiencing and touching the mind, the hearer and what is heard, etc., should be known as separate explanations. Those hearing and so on should be known as separate explanations. By what are they separately explained? It is by seeing itself. Just as seeing is unreasonable when examined in every way, so too should hearing and so on be understood. Just as the seer is unreasonable, so too should the hearer and so on be understood. Just as what is to be seen should be eliminated, so too should what is to be heard and so on be understood. If this is done, then the sense bases should also be understood to be established as emptiness. This is called the Examination of the Sense Bases, which is the third chapter. Here it is said: Here, the five aggregates, such as form, are shown. Those are suffering, it is said, and are said to be the noble truth of suffering. How can what is the noble truth not exist? Therefore, the aggregates exist. It is said: Without the cause of form, form will not become an object. Here, the four great elements are shown as the cause of form, and form is shown as the result of those. Apart from the four great elements, there is nothing that is the result called form that has become something other than the four great elements. Therefore, form is unreasonable. It is said: For the time being, the four great elements exist, because they have a cause, so the result also exists, so form is also completely established. It is said: Apart from what is called form, the cause of form is also not apparent. Apart from form, this is also the cause of form, which is not apparent. It has already been said that form is unreasonable, so since form is unreasonable, the cause of form is also unreasonable. It is said: Here, you rely on the cause to eliminate the result, and rely on the result to eliminate the cause, so on what do you rely there?

That which eliminates something else by relying on something is temporarily existent. If that exists, others will also be perfectly accomplished. It is said that one cannot say, "The other itself exists." Why is that? For example, if apart from the cause of form, form would become without a cause, and nothing would be without a cause. If the result exists before the cause, then it becomes something without a cause. Anything without a cause has neither been seen nor shown anywhere. Because then it would become that all things constantly arise from all things, and all actions would become the fault of being meaningless. Similarly, if apart from form, there exists a cause of form, then it becomes a cause without a result, and there is no cause without a result. If the result is eliminated but the cause still exists, then that cause becomes a cause without a result. There is no cause without a result, because the term "this is its" is also unreasonable, and it would become the fault that everything is the cause of everything. Therefore, the causes of form are also unreasonable, and form as a result is also unreasonable. Furthermore, even if form exists, the cause of form is not reasonable. Even if form does not exist, the cause of form is not reasonable. Here, if one examines the cause of form, does one examine the existing form? Or does one examine the non-existing form? For the existing form, the cause of form is not reasonable, and it is also not reasonable for the non-existing form. Among them, the temporarily existing one is not reasonable, because what is the use of a cause for something that exists? If the cause also has a function for something that exists, then it will never cease to function. That is also not desired. Therefore, the cause of form is not reasonable for the existing form. The cause of form is also not reasonable for the non-existing form, because if form does not exist, what would it be the cause of? Therefore, the cause of form is also not reasonable for the non-existing form. Is this not also a negation of conditions? For existing things, conditions are not suitable, which has already been fully explained. However, here it is also explained again because the time is ripe. Form without a cause is not reasonable.
