If ignorance ceases, then the six sense bases arise from name and form. Dependent on the six sense bases, contact arises from them. The order of arising of this contact is as follows: it arises solely dependent on the eye, form, and attention. Thus, dependent on name and form, consciousness arises. Thus, whatever is the aggregation of these three, the eye, form, and consciousness, that is contact. From that contact, feeling universally arises. Through the condition of feeling, craving arises, that is, craving arises for the meaning of feeling. If craving arises, then the four types of grasping will arise. If grasping exists, then the craving of the grasper will increase greatly. If grasping does not exist, then one is liberated by it, and its existence will not arise. Because it is connected with grasping, therefore its existence will arise, and one should know that this existence is the five aggregates. From existence, birth arises. From birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil arise. Thus, this pure mass of suffering, a collection of suffering alone, unmixed, will arise. Therefore, wise people do not accumulate the fundamental formations of cyclic existence. Therefore, unwise people are the creators of formations, but wise people are not, and why is that? Because they see the truth. If ignorance ceases, then formations will also not arise. The way to cease ignorance is through practicing, becoming accustomed to, and making firm the knowledge of the twelve links. When this or that link of existence ceases, then this or that link of existence will not manifest. Thus, this pure mass of suffering, a collection of suffering alone, unmixed, will also completely cease and be utterly extinguished, like a burnt seed. A more extensive understanding of these twelve links of existence should be comprehended from the Sutras and Abhidharma. Here, these are spoken of due to brevity. Examine the twelve links of existence.

It is called "者", the twenty-sixth chapter. Here it says: You should rely on the edge of the sutras that are in accordance with the Hearer Vehicle to show that various views are impossible. Here it says: In the past time, it has arisen, Those who think the world is permanent, etc., have not arisen, Whatever views are those, They rely on the former extreme. In the future, another time will arise, Those who think the world has an end, etc., will not arise, Whatever views are those, They rely on the latter extreme. It is said in the Sutra called "The Compendium of All Defilements": "I have arisen in the past time," and "I have not arisen in the past time," because of this, those who think the world is permanent, etc., rely on the former extreme. "I will arise in another time in the future," and "I will not arise in another time in the future," because of this, those who think the world has an end, etc., rely on the latter extreme. Those are unreasonable, by what reasoning? It should be said: It has arisen in the past time, This is unreasonable. Whatever arose in previous lives, That itself is not this. If you think that is the self, Then the aggregates are different. Apart from the aggregates, What is your self? Since there is no self apart from the aggregates, If the aggregates themselves are the self, Then your self does not exist. The aggregates themselves are not the self, That is arising and ceasing. How can the aggregates, Become the aggregates? It is not reasonable that the self is other than the aggregates. If it is other, without taking, If there is something to be taken, there should be nothing to be taken. Thus, it is not other than taking, That is also not the aggregates themselves. The self is not without aggregates, It is also not certain that it is non-existent. "I have arisen in the past time," that is unreasonable. Why? Because whatever arose in previous lives, that itself is not the present self. To this, if someone thinks that whatever arose in previous lives, is the present
