That proposition is unreasonable. Why? Because whatever wisdom manifests and grasps, and acts, if non-things and things are established, then it will also be established. Since non-things and things are not established, therefore it is unreasonable to say that "Nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing." Furthermore, if Nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing, then who can reveal "neither a thing nor a non-thing"? If Nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing, then neither a thing nor a non-thing exists. Since they do not exist, who can reveal, represent, grasp, and establish that Nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing? Therefore, it is also unreasonable to say that Nirvana is neither a thing nor a non-thing. Therefore, Nirvana is also unreasonable. How is it unreasonable? After the Blessed One passes into Nirvana, he does not appear to exist, and similarly, he does not appear to not exist, both, or neither. Even when the Blessed One is dwelling, he does not appear to exist, and similarly, he does not appear to not exist, both, or neither. Because the Blessed One, whether in Nirvana or dwelling, cannot be shown to exist, not exist, both exist and not exist, or neither exist nor not exist, and cannot be represented, grasped, or established, therefore Nirvana is also unestablishable. If Nirvana is unestablishable, then whose Nirvana is it? Therefore, in every way, Nirvana is unreasonable. Furthermore, there is no difference whatsoever between Samsara and Nirvana. There is no difference whatsoever between Nirvana and Samsara. If Samsara is established based on the continuum of aggregates, then since those aggregates are empty in nature, as I have already shown at the very beginning, they are of a nature without constant arising and without cessation. Therefore, all dharmas

There is no birth, and no cessation. By equality, there is not even the slightest difference between cyclic existence and nirvana. Just as there is not even the slightest difference between cyclic existence and nirvana, so too, there is not even the slightest difference between nirvana and cyclic existence. Where is the end of nirvana? That is the end of cyclic existence. Between these two, there is not even the slightest, most subtle difference. Nirvana and the true end of cyclic existence, as well as the end of no birth and the true ultimate end, these are without object, and by equality, there is not even the slightest, most subtle difference. Views that there is cessation and that there is an end, etc., as well as views of permanence, etc., are dependent on nirvana and the later and former extremes. Views that the Tathagata exists or does not exist after cessation, as well as that he both exists and does not exist, and that he neither exists nor does not exist, and views that the world has an end and that the world has no end, as well as that it both has an end and has no end, and that it neither has an end nor has no end, and views that the world is permanent and that the world is impermanent, as well as that it is both permanent and impermanent, and that it is neither permanent nor impermanent, these are, in order, dependent on nirvana, the later extreme, and the former extreme. Therefore, in the emptiness of all things, what is an end? What is no end? What is an end and no end? What is not an end and no end? What is that? What is other? What is permanent? What is impermanent? What are both permanent and impermanent? What is neither of the two? All objects are pacified, all elaborations are pacified. The Buddha has not taught any dharma to anyone anywhere. Like an illusion, like a snare. This is called "Examination of Nirvana," the twenty-fifth chapter. Here it is said: You have already explained the way to enter the ultimate truth through the tenets of the Great Vehicle, so please explain the way to enter the ultimate truth through the tenets of the Hearers. Here it is explained: Because of the obscuration of ignorance.

For the sake of rebirth. The three kinds of actions, Whatever is the manifested action, By those actions, one goes to rebirth. Consciousness conditioned by action, Will enter into beings. When consciousness has entered, Name and form will be formed. When name and form have been formed, The six sense sources will arise. Relying on the six sense sources, From that, contact will arise. Eye, form, and memory, Only by relying on them, birth occurs. Thus, relying on name and form, Consciousness will arise. Eye, form, and consciousness, Whatever is the gathering of the three, That is contact, and from that contact, All feelings will arise. Due to feeling arises craving, Due to the meaning of feeling arises craving. If craving arises, then clinging arises, The four aspects of clinging arise. If there is clinging, then the clinger's, Existence will arise intensely. If there is no clinging, Then liberation will occur, and existence will not arise. That existence is also the five aggregates, From existence, birth arises. Old age and death, and sorrow, And lamentation along with suffering, Displeasure and turmoil, Those all arise from birth. Thus, the aggregate of suffering, This sole one will arise. Therefore, the wise do not, Create the root action of samsara. Therefore, the unwise Is the creator, For the sake of seeing the unwise. When ignorance ceases, The actions will also not arise. Ignorance ceases, By meditating on that consciousness. When that and that have ceased, That and that will not manifest. The sole aggregate of suffering, Thus, it truly ceases. Children obscured by ignorance, for the sake of rebirth, sentient beings in hell and other places, perform actions with the three doors of body, speech, and mind. Whether virtuous or non-virtuous actions, whichever of the great, medium, or small are manifested and performed, will cause them to go to the hells and other places of rebirth of sentient beings. Here, by the condition of action, how does consciousness enter the places of rebirth, thereby forming name and form? Name and form.
