What then would be real? Constant is constant, impermanent is impermanent, and what is neither constant nor impermanent, what then would be real? Therefore, the four views beginning with the extreme of the past, such as permanence and impermanence, are unreasonable. Now, how the four views beginning with the extreme of the future, such as having an end and not having an end, are unreasonable will be explained. If asked, how so? The answer: If the world has an end, how will the next world be? If the world has no end, how will the next world be? To say that the world has an end is unreasonable. Why? If the world has an end, then there will be no next world. Because there is a next world, it is unreasonable to say that the world has an end. To say that the world has no end is also unreasonable. Why? If the world has no end, then there will be no next world. Because there is a next world, it is also unreasonable to say that the world has no end. Why are these two views unreasonable? To this, it will be explained: Because the continuum of aggregates, this is like the light of a lamp. Therefore, neither having an end nor not having an end is reasonable. Because the continuum of aggregates is like the light of a lamp, arising from the power of the assembly of causes and conditions, therefore it is also unreasonable to say that the world has an end or does not have an end. Why is it unreasonable? To this, it will be explained: If the former ceases and, relying on this aggregate, that aggregate does not arise, then the world would have an end. If the former does not cease and, relying on this aggregate, that aggregate does not arise, then the world would have no end. If the former aggregates cease and, relying on these aggregates, those other aggregates do not arise, then the world would become having an end. Because it is not so, it is unreasonable to say that the world has an end. If the former aggregates do not cease and, relying on these aggregates,

Depending on this, if those later aggregates do not arise, then, if the world becomes boundless, for what reason would it be valid to say that the world is boundless? The venerable Āryadeva also said: "The listener and what is heard, the speaker are very rare to arise, therefore if they do not arise, samsara is neither finite nor infinite." So it is said. Now, it is also unreasonable to say that the world is both finite and infinite. Why? It will be explained: If one side is finite, and one side is infinite, the world becomes both finite and infinite. That is also not reasonable. If one side becomes finite and one side becomes infinite, therefore, if the world becomes both finite and infinite, then the object becomes dualistic, which is unreasonable. How is the taker? One side is completely destroyed, and one side is not completely destroyed, that is not reasonable. How is the taken? One side is completely destroyed, and one side is not completely destroyed, that is also not reasonable. In short, by what reasoning does the taker completely destroy one side and not completely destroy one side? Because there is no permanence or impermanence, that is not reasonable. By what means is the taken completely destroyed on one side and not completely destroyed on one side? Because permanence and impermanence are unreasonable, so that is also unreasonable. Therefore, because the duality of things is unreasonable, it is unreasonable to say that the world is both finite and infinite. Then, it is also unreasonable to say that the world is neither finite nor infinite, why? It will be explained: If it is said that finite and infinite, both are established, then, neither finite nor infinite, whether it is established depends on the will. If it is said that both finite and infinite are completely established, therefore, if the establishment of saying neither finite nor infinite also depends on the will, then, because of what

Because the two, namely having an end and not having an end, are not established, therefore, the statement that it is neither having an end nor not having an end is also not established. Therefore, with this examination, the four statements beginning with having an end and not having an end, based on the edge of the house, are unreasonable. Or, since all things are empty, how can views such as permanence arise everywhere, in what place, towards what thing, and by what means? Who, holding compassion closely, in order to abandon all views, taught the supreme Dharma, to that Gautama I prostrate. Who, holding compassion closely, in order to abandon all views, taught the supreme Dharma. I prostrate to the Buddha Bhagavan, who is extremely rare, inconceivable, incomparable, immeasurable, and identical to the Gautama lineage, like the Bodhisattva Delightful One. From the commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Fearless, composed by the teacher, the noble Nagarjuna, the chapter called "Examination of Views" is the twenty-seventh chapter, the last one. The words called "Commentary on the Root Verses on the Middle Way, Fearless," briefly explain the meaning called wisdom, being treatises and distinctions, speech and linguistics, established by scripture, without fear from any side, whether one's own or another's, regarding the tenets spoken by each side, subsequent inferences and refutations of debates, and merely explaining those, possessing the ability to cut off the stains of the four evil views, explaining the manner of the Perfection of Wisdom, the teacher, the great sovereign, the noble Nagarjuna, possessing unseizable wisdom and compassion, thoroughly distinguishing the manner of the Tathagata's unsurpassed vehicle, having attained the Extremely Joyful Ground, went to the Pure Land of Bliss, in the place called the World Realm Pure Light, will transform into the Tathagata's Wisdom Source Light, the deeds are thus completed. By the decree of the supreme sovereign, the great king, the glorious Lhatsenpo, the Indian Abbot, the Great Vehicle Madhyamika, Jñanagarbha.
