then it will cease. If some afflictions, which have inherent existence, how can they be abandoned? Who abandons what exists? If some afflictions, which exist by their own nature and are true, unique, and veritable, how can those be abandoned? Who abandons what exists? Because abandonment is unreasonable. To this, if someone thinks that afflictions do not exist by their own nature, and wants to abandon those that do not exist by their own nature, then it should be said to him: If some afflictions, which do not have inherent existence, how can they be abandoned? Who abandons what does not exist? If some afflictions, which do not exist by their own nature and are not true, unique, and veritable, how can those be abandoned? Who abandons what does not exist? Because abandonment is unreasonable, like a meditator wearing a helmet on his head. This is the examination of perversion, called the twenty-third chapter. Here it is said: If all these are empty, then there is no arising and no destruction. Then you should not have the four noble truths. Since there are no four noble truths, therefore, complete knowledge, abandonment, cultivation, and realization are not reasonable. Since those do not exist, the four fruits also do not exist. If there is no fruit, then there is no fruit-position, and the stream-enterers and others do not exist. If the eight types of persons do not exist, then the Sangha does not exist. Since there are no noble truths, therefore, the sacred Dharma also does not exist. If the Dharma and Sangha do not exist, then how can the Buddha exist? If you say that, you are harming the Three Jewels. If all these beings are empty, therefore there is no arising and no destruction. Since those do not exist, then you should not have the four noble truths. Since there are no four noble truths, therefore, the complete knowledge of suffering, the abandonment of origination, the cultivation of the path, and the realization of cessation are not reasonable. The complete knowledge of suffering, the abandonment of origination, the cultivation of the path, and the realization of cessation, those do not exist, therefore the four fruits of the renunciates also

Nor is it that they do not exist. If the fruits of the renunciates do not exist, then the eight types of individuals who abide in and enter into the fruits also do not exist. If those eight types of individuals do not exist, then the sangha does not exist. Furthermore, because the noble truths do not exist, neither does the sacred dharma. If the dharma and sangha do not exist, then how could the Buddha exist? If one speaks of emptiness in this way, one is harming the Three Jewels. Furthermore, if one grasps at emptiness, then non-dharma and the nature of dharma, as well as the fruits produced by them, and all worldly designations, are harmed. If one grasps at emptiness, then non-dharma and the nature of dharma, and the fruits produced by them, and all worldly designations are harmed. Therefore, all things are not empty. In this regard, your explanation is that because you have not understood the need for emptiness, emptiness itself, and the meaning of emptiness, you therefore cause such harm. You have not understood as it is the need for teaching emptiness, the characteristics of emptiness, and the meaning of emptiness, therefore you cause such harm. The Buddhas teach the dharma, relying completely on two truths: the worldly conventional truth and the truth of ultimate meaning. Those who do not know the distinction between these two truths do not understand the profound reality of the Buddhas' teachings. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, teach the dharma, arising in reliance on these two truths. The so-called worldly conventional truth is that for those who do not realize the inversion of the world regarding the emptiness of the nature of things, they see all things as arising. For them, this is true in a conventional way, so it is the conventional truth. The truth of ultimate meaning is that the noble ones, having realized without inversion, see all things as unborn. For them, this is true in an ultimate way, so it is the truth of ultimate meaning. For those who do not understand these two, the conventional truth and the ultimate truth,
