་མི་སྣང་བར་འགྱུར་བ་ཞིག་ན། སྣང་བས་དེའི་ཕྱིར་འགག་པ་མེད་དོ། །འདིར་སྨྲས་པ། འོ་ན་སྐྱེ་བ་ཡོད་དོ། །འདིར་བཤད་པ། སྐྱེ་བ་མེད་དོ། །ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཞེ་ན། འཇིག་རྟེན་ན་མཐོང་བའི་ཕྱིར་ཏེ། 如果变得不显现，因为显现的缘故，就不会有灭。这里说：那么有生吗？这里说：没有生。为什么呢？因为在世间能见到。就像这样，在世间能见到诸事物没有生，就像这样，最初劫的稻米等等，那些已经没有了，现在的一些稻米等等也没有了。如果那些没有了，现在的稻米等等却显现出来，那么说有生才是合理的。因为不显现的缘故，所以没有生。这里说：有断灭吗？这里说：没有断灭。为什么呢？因为在世间能见到。就像这样，在世间能见到诸事物没有断灭，能见到从稻米的种子中生出稻米的苗芽等等。如果是有断灭，那么生出就不会被观察到，因为能观察到生出的缘故，所以没有断灭。这里说：有常吗？这里说：没有常。为什么呢？因为在世间能见到。就像这样，在世间能见到诸事物不可能是常，稻米的种子在苗芽的时候不能被观察到，这样，因为在苗芽的时候，种子变异了，所以不是常。稻米的种子是怎样的，一切事物都应该这样去思考。这里说：如果是这样，那么诸事物就变成一个意思了。这里说：不是一个意思。为什么呢？因为在世间能见到。就像这样，在世间能见到诸事物不是一个意思，这里稻米的种子不是苗芽。如果是一个意思，那么就不会说种子和苗芽是不同的，因为它们说的是不同的，所以不是一个意思。这里说：如果不认为是同一个意思，那么诸事物就变成不同的意思了。这里说：不是不同的意思。为什么呢？因为在世间能见到。

If those were not there, and the present rice, etc., appeared, then it would be reasonable to say that there is birth. Because of invisibility, therefore there is no birth. Here it is said: Is there annihilation? Here it is said: There is no annihilation. Why is that? Because it is seen in the world. Like this, in the world, it is seen that things do not have annihilation. It is seen that from the seed of rice, the sprout of rice, etc., arise. If there were annihilation, then arising itself would not be observed. Because arising is observed, therefore there is no annihilation. Here it is said: Is there permanence? Here it is said: There is no permanence. Why is that? Because it is seen in the world. Like this, in the world, it is seen that things cannot be permanent. The seed of rice is not observed at the time of the sprout. Thus, because at the time of the sprout, the seed changes, therefore it is not permanent. Just as the seed of rice is, so should all things be thought of. Here it is said: If that is so, then things become one meaning. Here it is said: It is not one meaning. Why is that? Because it is seen in the world. Like this, in the world, it is seen that things are not one meaning. Here, the seed of rice is not a sprout. If it were one meaning, then it would not be said that the seed and the sprout are different. Because they say they are different, therefore it is not one meaning. Here it is said: If you do not consider it to be the same meaning, then things become different meanings. Here it is said: It is not a different meaning. Why is that? Because it is seen in the world.

Why not call them "barnyard millet seeds," "barnyard millet seedlings," and "barnyard millet leaves"? Precisely because it is not said that way, the meanings are not different. Here someone says: There is a source. Here it is refuted: There is no source. Why? Because the world is not seen. Just as seen in the world, things do not come from anywhere. For example, if a rice seedling comes from elsewhere, it will not be fixedly present in the rice seed. If the seedling comes from another place and is fixedly present in it, it will appear like a bird perched on a tree. But because it does not appear that way, there is no source. Here someone says: There is a destination. Here it is refuted: There is no destination. Why? Because it can be seen in the world. Just as seen in the world, things have no destination. For example, the rice seedling does not leave the seed. If it is said that there is a destination, it will appear like a snake moving. But because it does not appear that way, there is no destination. Therefore, by reasoning in this way, arising and ceasing, etc., are not reasonable; this is the first examination. Here someone says: Then, apart from that, how is it that there is no birth? Here it is said: Not from self, not from other, Not from both, not from no cause, Any thing, in any place, Never is there birth. Not from self means not arising from oneself. Not from other means not arising solely from the other. Not from both means not arising from both oneself and the other. Not from no cause means not arising from no cause. Thing refers to dharmas; the term thing is common to all non-Buddhists.
