Because it would become too excessive. There is no fire apart from firewood, because it would become a fault of relying on others, etc. Fire is not possessed by firewood, fire does not have firewood, and firewood does not have fire, because it would become a fault of otherness. Fire and wood, with self and, all the sequences of close acceptance, together with vases, woolen cloth, etc., are completely and thoroughly explained. All the sequences of oneness and otherness, and the unreasonableness of mutual dependence, of the self and close acceptance by fire and wood, together with vases, woolen cloth, etc., should be understood as completely and thoroughly explained. Those who show self and things as being both with and different from it, I do not think of them as being skilled in the meaning of the teachings. Those who show self and things as being both with and different from it, I do not think of them as being skilled in the meaning of the teachings. This is called "Examination of Fire and Wood," the tenth chapter. Here it is said: The Bhagavan, in the sutra without beginning or end, said to the monks, "Samsara has no beginning or end, and the prior and later limits are not visible." Therefore, the fact that he showed that samsara exists, based on what intention did he say that, which you should explain in detail. Here it is explained: When asked, "Is the prior limit visible?" the Great Hero said, "No." Samsara has no beginning or end, therefore it has no prior and no later. When asked, "Is the prior limit visible?" the Great Hero said, "No," therefore samsara has no beginning and no end. Why? Because it has neither prior nor later. If someone thinks that the center of samsara exists, that is also not possible. Why? Like this, for something that has no beginning and no end, where would there be a center? For something that has no beginning and no end, where would a center exist? Therefore, for it, the prior and later, and the simultaneous sequence are unreasonable. Because samsara has no beginning, middle, and end, therefore for it, the prior and later and the simultaneous sequence are unreasonable. How should that be understood? It is explained: If birth is prior, then old age and death

If it is the latter, then there is no birth, aging, and death, and even without dying, one will be born again. If birth comes first and aging and death come later, then that birth has no aging and death, and even without dying before, one will be born here again, which is a fault. Also, if birth comes later and aging and death come earlier, then how can aging and death without birth occur without a cause? If birth comes later and aging and death come earlier, then how can aging and death without birth arise without a cause? Here it is said that there is no before and after for those, it is only born in connection with aging and death. Here it is said that birth and aging and death cannot exist simultaneously. While being born, one will die, and both will become causeless. It is not reasonable for birth and aging and death to occur simultaneously, for if they occur simultaneously, then while being born, one will die, and both will become causeless, which is unreasonable. Here it is said that those sequences of before and after and simultaneous are unreasonable, but since birth and aging and death exist, the "self" to whom they belong also exists. Here it is said that for that birth and that aging and death that have no sequence of before and after and simultaneous, why do you elaborate? If you investigate by first applying reasoning in this way, if birth and aging and death do not have a sequence of before and after and simultaneous, then why do you elaborate and say that birth and that aging and death? If those are unreasonable, how can it be reasonable to think that the "self" exists? Cause and effect themselves, as well as nature and the basis of nature itself, feeling and the feeler itself, and any meaningful things. If you investigate in this way, just as the sequence of before and after and simultaneous of birth and aging and death is unreasonable, similarly, cause and effect themselves, nature and the basis of nature itself, feeling and the feeler itself, and any other meaningful things, such as liberation, nirvana, knowledge and the knowable, valid cognition and the object of valid cognition, etc., examining the existence of these, all of these are also unreasonable, because they also do not possess the order of before and after and simultaneous. Merely samsara, there is no prior limit.
