Ra gyur. Thus, if one thoroughly examines with reason, any phenomenon, such as the view of self, etc., searching in all forms in the past, present, and future, if there is no self-established entity that can be pointed out as "this is it," then the thoughts that posit the existence or non-existence of such views of self, etc., will cease. This is called "Examination of the Clinger and the Clung-to," which is the ninth chapter. Here it is said: Applying the example of fire and firewood, like fire, the clinger, the self, exists. Like firewood, the five aggregates, the clung-to, also exist. Here it is said: Those are not existent. Why? Because fire and firewood are not established. In this case, can fire and firewood be established as being either the same or different? In either way, they cannot be established. If asked how, it is said: If the wood is the fire, then the agent and the action become one. If, for a moment, whatever is just firewood becomes fire, then the agent and the action would become one, because fire is the agent, and firewood is the action. Therefore, the assertion that fire and firewood are the same is not reasonable. If you think that fire and firewood are different, then it should be said to you: If fire is different from wood, then fire should arise even without wood. If fire is different from firewood, then fire should arise even without firewood. Therefore, the assertion that fire and firewood are different is also not reasonable. Furthermore, it would become constantly burning, arising from a cause without burning. The effort would become meaningless. If that is the case, then there would be no action. If they are different, then it would become constantly burning, and it would arise from a cause without burning. Therefore, the effort would also become meaningless, as efforts such as drilling wood and igniting would become meaningless. Furthermore, if that is the case, then there would be no action, and its actions, such as burning and cutting, would not be established. To this, you might think: Why is there no cause of burning?

If one thinks that it arises from illusion and that creation would become meaningless, then it should be explained: Because it does not depend on others. It arises from a cause without burning. If it is constantly burning, then creation would become meaningless. Because it does not depend on others, it would arise from a cause without burning. If it is constantly burning, then creation would become meaningless. Regarding this, if one thinks: what is burning is firewood, regarding this, if one thinks that the burning itself is firewood, then it should be explained: When it is only that, what burns that firewood? When the burning is only firewood, and it does not possess any other conditions for burning, with what fire does one burn that firewood? If there is no fire, it will also become firewood, this is the final conclusion. And also, if it is other, then it does not meet, if there is no meeting, then it will not burn, if it does not burn, then it will not die, if it does not die, then it will abide in its own characteristics. If fire is other, then it will not meet with firewood, why? Because it is established independently. If there is no meeting, then the firewood will not burn. If it does not burn, then it will not die. If it does not die, then it will abide in its own characteristics. Here it is said: If fire is other, then it will not meet with firewood, regarding what is said, it should be said: If fire is other than wood, it can also meet with wood. Just like a woman and a man, a man also meets with a woman. If fire is other than wood, it can also meet with wood, just as a woman and a man are each other, but they can also meet each other. Here it is said: If fire and wood, one excludes the other, the fire that is other than wood, also depends on wanting to meet with wood. If fire and wood are like a man and a woman, each is other, and one excludes the other, then the fire that is other than wood, also depends on wanting to meet with wood, because it is not like that, so you say that if fire is other than wood, it can also meet with wood.
