None. Since conditioned things are utterly unestablished, how can the unconditioned be established? Like a dream, like an illusion, like a city of gandharvas, similarly, birth is spoken of, similarly, abiding, similarly, destruction. This is called "Examination of Birth, Abiding, and Destruction," the seventh chapter. That which has become the agent does not do what has become the action. That which has not become the agent also does not do what has not become the action. For that which has become, there is no action; there can also be action without an agent. For that which has become, there is no action; there can also be an agent without action. If that which has not become an agent does what has not become an action, then the action will have no cause, and the agent will also have no cause. If there is no cause, then the result and the cause will not be reasonable. If there is no cause, then action, agent, and doing are not reasonable. If action and so forth are not reasonable, then dharma and non-dharma do not exist. If dharma and non-dharma do not exist, then there is no result arising from them. If there is no result, then the path to liberation and higher realms is not reasonable. All actions will become meaningless. That which has become an agent and that which has not become an agent, that which has become and that which has not become do not act, for how can there be mutual contradiction between being and non-being? That which has become an agent does not do what has not become an action; that which has not become does not do what has become. Here too, that fault will follow. That which has become an agent, and the action that is possessed, and that which has not become, and that which has become and has not become do not act, for the reason has been shown above. That which has not become an agent does not do the action that has become and is possessed, and that which has become and has not become do not act, for the reason has been shown above. That which has become and has not become an agent, and the action that has become and has not become, do not act; this reason should also be understood from what has been shown above. The agent depends on the action, and the action also depends on that very agent; apart from arising in dependence on them, no cause for establishment is seen. Likewise, the proximate cause should be understood, for the sake of eliminating action and agent. The remaining entities should be understood by means of agent and action. This is called "Examination of Agent and Action," the eighth chapter. Seeing and hearing and so forth, feeling and so forth, and also what is controlled, whose are they?
