If it transforms, because there is no birth in destruction, the cause will become annihilation. If things inherently exist, it is unreasonable for non-things to transform. It ceases at the time of Nirvana, because the continuum of existence is completely pacified. If the end is extinguished, the initial type of existence will not change. If the end is not extinguished, the initial type of existence will not change. If the end is in the process of extinguishing, and the beginning is in the process of being born, then what is extinguishing is one transformation, and what is being born is another transformation. If extinguishing and being born are not possible simultaneously, which skandha will die, and will that skandha be born? Thus, if the continuum of existence is unreasonable in the three times, then what does not exist in the three times, how can that be the continuum of existence? This is called "Examining Arising and Destruction," which is the twenty-first chapter. Not a skandha, not other than the skandhas, it has no skandhas, it is not there. The Tathagata is not with skandhas, who is the Tathagata? If the Buddha relies on the skandhas, it is not from its own nature, if it is not from its own nature, how can it be from other things? If one relies on other things, then it should not be self. If one has no self, how can one become a Tathagata? If self-nature does not exist, how can other things exist? Apart from self-nature and other things, what is that Tathagata? If without relying on the skandhas, if the Tathagata exists, then it will now become a reliance, and after relying, it will depend on transformation. Without relying on the skandhas, there is no Tathagata. If one does not exist without relying, then how can there be grasping? Not near grasping, how can it not become near grasping? Without near grasping, there is no Tathagata. Having searched in five ways, which Tathagata is not itself, not other itself, how can it be established by near grasping? Which is near grasping, that is not from its own nature. What is not in my things, how can one hope to have it from other things? Thus, near grasping and the one who grasps nearly are empty in all ways. Emptiness, the Tathagata is emptiness, how can it be established? Empty

It is not said to be born, Nor is it said to be unborn, Not doing two and not two, It is said for the sake of designation. The four, such as permanent and impermanent, Where are they in this peace? The four, such as with end and without end, Where are they in this peace? Whoever holds that the Thus-Gone exists, Tightly grasping dense clinging, That, for the one who has passed into nirvana, Will imagine as non-existent. For that which is empty by nature, After the Buddha has passed into nirvana, To say it exists or does not exist, Such a thought is not reasonable. Whoever has the Buddha transcended elaboration, And elaborates on the inexhaustible, All those diminished by elaboration, Will not be able to see the Thus-Gone. What is the nature of the Thus-Gone? That is the nature of this world. The Thus-Gone has no nature, This world has no nature. The chapter on Examining the Thus-Gone, named the twenty-second chapter. Desire, hatred, and delusion, Are said to arise from discrimination. Lovely and unlovely, and inverted, Arise entirely from dependence. Whoever, for lovely and unlovely, And inverted, arises dependently, those do not exist from their own nature, Therefore, afflictions do not truly exist. My existence and non-existence, In no way are established. Without that, the afflictions', Existence and non-existence, how are they established? Whose are those afflictions? That also is not established as existent. Without anyone, anyone's, Afflictions do not exist. Like looking at one's own body, afflictions, For the afflicted, do not exist in five ways. Like looking at one's own body, the afflicted, For afflictions, do not exist in five ways. Lovely and unlovely, and inverted, If they do not exist from their own nature, Lovely and unlovely, and inverted, Afflictions that arise depending on what? Form, sound, taste, and touch, Smell and phenomena, these six, Are the basis for desire, hatred, And delusion, and are considered to be. Form, sound, taste, and touch, Smell and phenomena are merely, Like a city of gandharvas, Like mirages and dreams. Like an illusionary person, Like reflections, for those, Lovely and unlovely, How could they arise? Depending on what is loveliness designated?
