In the manner of neither taking nor abandoning anything, the characteristics of samsara are suffering and origination. The characteristics of nirvana are cessation and the path. Since one does not grasp onto all of these as being truly existent, one has established the samadhi of equanimity without characteristics. Now, I shall explain the aspirationless samadhi, which is a complete cessation, does not abide, and is not the object of the yogi's direct perception of the mind. Furthermore, since no defilement of knower and known has arisen, it is without defilement. There is also no separation from defilement. The Dharmakaya is beyond thought and meditation, so there is no pride of the wisdom that knows all aspects; it is without wisdom. That which is called 'without wisdom' is not 'without' in relation to 'being'; it is liberation from being and non-being, and is inseparable in essence from the unchanging, vajra-like samadhi, and is called the Svabhavikakaya (essence body). The distinction is that the three kayas are spontaneously accomplished. The need is to realize the profound meaning and liberate the mind. The need of the need is that the benefit of beings arises without effort. The definition is that the Dharmakaya is without wisdom. That Dharmakaya is neither a result arising from a cause, nor a maturation arising from karma. Such a thing is called 'without attainment' because it is not the object of intellect, mind, name, or consciousness. The term 'without non-attainment' means that since it transcends intellect, mind, and consciousness, there is no place that it does not pervade. Shariputra, therefore, only this much can be said, because it transcends the collection of names, the collection of words, and the collection of letters. Bodhisattvas are those who suddenly realize and comprehend the afflictions and karma-born intellect, mind, and consciousness of sentient beings in the three realms, or the wisdom born of the knower and the known. Because there is no attainment, even those who have realized the bhumis and paths have not attained it. Wisdom is of three types. The wisdom of hearing arises from names, words, and letters. The wisdom of contemplation is to contemplate its meaning without error. The wisdom of meditation is single-pointedness of mind. Transcendence is beyond these.

O! Abiding in the profound realm, beyond hearing, without any conceptualization, is the absence of memory. Beyond thought, without any conceptualization, is the absence of birth. Beyond meditation, without any conceptualization, is transcending the realm of the mind. Thus, abiding in a state of non-reliance, the mind is without obscurations, being the essence of utmost purity, the mind is not tainted by karma, afflictions, or the obscurations of knowledge. Without fear, because upon hearing the profound nature of reality, one does not become afraid, alarmed, or fearful. Inversion is the lack of faith in the profound nature of reality, and the belief that beings of the three realms truly exist, taking the objects of memory as real. Delusion in inversion is like beings of the three realms, for example, seeing illusions in a dream, or seeing a rope as a snake in a dream, or a young woman seeing birth and death in a dream, so too are the sufferings and joys of beings in the three realms. What is called inversion is seeing as mistaken the unmistaken ultimate truth. For example, some people crossing a river in a boat see a mountain or rock swaying and moving. Likewise, those not guided by a virtuous friend may have mistaken views of the profound nature of reality. For example, lion's milk should only be drunk by lion cubs; if others drink it, their bodies will crack and it will become poison. Likewise, the profound meaning of the Prajnaparamita should be taught to those of the Mahayana lineage whose minds are utterly pure. If taught to those of the Hinayana lineage, they will become frightened, afraid, and alarmed. For example, if milk is given to someone with phlegm disease, it will not cure the disease but will turn into poison. Likewise, the profound nature of reality should not be taught to those who are not suitable vessels. However, if that milk is made into yogurt and butter, and then given to someone with phlegm disease, it will be beneficial. Likewise, if the profound nature of reality of the Prajnaparamita is mixed with the five perfections such as generosity, and then taught to those of the Hinayana lineage, it will be beneficial. For example, many blind people, each in their own village and each in their own
