Therefore, there exists a single person (pudgala) who follows all states. The connection is that whatever bondage and liberation are, they are the same basis, for example, like Lhasin being bound and liberated by iron chains. The two, bondage and liberation, which are the basis of the argument, are also bondage and liberation, which is a reason of nature. Similarly, to prove that the agent is the same basis, the connection should also be made constant. If here one were to prove a single, independent, ultimate, permanent person, then such a person and reason would not be established as related anywhere, and therefore it is uncertain. Since all conditioned things are momentary, Lhasin and others are not established as a single permanent entity, so the example is also incomplete. For the same reason, the reason is contradictory, because it is related to the opposite. However, why is it that when one proves only that it is the same basis, it is proving what is to be proven? That is also because it exists in the same continuum, so bondage and so on are considered to be the same place. In this way, when ignorance and so on, which have become cause and effect, constantly arise in a certain continuum, then it is called bondage. Again, in the same continuum, through the gradual arising of the noble path through hearing and so on, ignorance and so on cease, and when the state changes, it is called liberation. But these two are not established as objects of a single, permanent, ultimate entity, because worldly bondage and liberation are also similar to that. In whatever continuum good and non-virtuous minds and experiences arise, in that same continuum, at other times, depending on the complete ripening of the continuum, just as the complete ripening of the continuum soaked with juice such as madulunga and gakye, the fruits of happiness, suffering, and memory, etc. appear, therefore good and so on are known as the same place, but the agent, the eater, and the rememberer are not a single one, because all these imputed names are distinguished only by cause and effect. It is not too extreme either, because the power of seeds and so on...

As is known, because the power of causes is determined separately. Among these, how can the entities of cause and effect be determined separately? There is nothing that is solely followed, as it appears in different states. If the cause of sentient beings also becomes similar to this, then what is the use of completely imputing a self? Imputing a self, the state of being a doer, etc., is the cause. The state of being profound, etc., is the effect, and the entities of cause and effect must be undoubtedly acknowledged. If it is not so, if these two states do not arise, or if one does not benefit the other, then like space, how can the eater, etc., be established? It must be acknowledged that powers are determined separately, and in this way, happiness, etc., will arise in connection with the separately determined nature, but not for all things. Therefore, the way in which virtue, etc., appear as cause and effect, if only those things that appear are the doer and the eater, then what is the use of imputing that invisible nature of self? Even if the self cannot be established by inference, however, because it is the object of manifest cognition that was previously known, if it is said that the self is established by manifest cognition, that is also not reasonable, because there is delusion there, and it is accompanied by conceptual thought, and knowledge itself cannot be established as manifest cognition. When the knowledge of "I" appears, how can it become manifest? Just as inferring from one's own established tenets, the single, permanent, pervasive self cannot be observed. It must be undoubtedly understood in that way. If it is not so, if the knowledge of "I" becomes manifest, then at that time those who are skilled in speech would not argue about the self becoming an object, because, accompanied by conceptual thought, grasping at "I" has become a definite nature. For things that have been determined as objects, there is no fabrication. Therefore, deceived by the occurrence of different kinds of similarities, and due to the power of habituation from beginningless time, the aggregates of form, etc., which are determined separately, are regarded as single, and because other things are used separately, the thought of "I" arises. For that knowledge, form
