Through the distinctions of the divisions, conditioned phenomena are of three types. Among them, those that have passed exist only in memory. Because they lack inherent existence, they are empty of both phenomena and individuals, and they are not blessed by self. Therefore, the example of a dream shows the subsequent realization of the two types of selflessness regarding them. The example of lightning shows that, as it arises, it does not possess the nature of being either one or many. Because its nature is ungraspable, it shows the subsequent realization of that. The future is the nature of not having arrived. The example of clouds shows the two types of selflessness because its seeds arise from negative karma in the mind, which is like the sky. Therefore, through all of this, bodhisattvas always desire to examine the nature of all conditioned phenomena in this way, and it is fully shown that they should abide by means of aspiration. By showing the subsequent realization of renunciation, it shows meditative stabilization in yoga and the complete control of the mind. All of these places show profundity. In this verse, this is fully shown: the root of affliction is perversion. Therefore, for those who have mindfulness with repeated contemplation on the nature of conditioned phenomena, and others who thus understand conditioned phenomena, because there is no perversion, they do not become afflicted. How can the Tathagata, who meditates on the nature of all things as they are, and is free from all nets of perversion, become afflicted? Therefore, he also fully understands all the faults of conditioned phenomena. The Tathagata is like a lotus, possessing a mind that is not stained by the water of the faults of samsara. He has vowed to manifestly guide all beings, and he accomplishes the result, possessing a mind of great compassion. It should be known that, with the intention of benefiting beings and accomplishing happiness at all times, he will abide as long as the wheel of samsara turns. As it is said, "In order to make the world happy, he does not abide in samsara or nirvana." It is also said that he abides on the ground of seeing all sentient beings. Generating the Thubpas who abide in the three times, may this merit from what I have explained to the best of my ability
