Entering means entering with a mind of aspiration and engagement. The reason for specifying this is to exclude the *bodhi* of the *shravakas* and others. If it is said that one has truly entered *bodhi*, since there are three *bodhis*, it could also be understood as other *bodhis*. "Hearing" means a word of acceptance. The meaning of the words of the nature of practice, etc., has already been explained. Now, its places will be described. These places, in brief, are eighteen in number, namely: generating the mind of *bodhi*, engaging in the *paramitas*, desiring to obtain the *rupakaya*, desiring to obtain the *dharmakaya*, not having pride in desiring the distinctions of meditation, pleasing the Buddhas, wishing for pure lands, maturing all sentient beings, why be free from attachment to the scriptures, practicing the destruction of the complete grasping of sentient beings and the vessel world, making offerings and service to the *Tathagatas*, turning away from diligence due to exhaustion of body and mind, not creating and being free from gain and respect, not turning away from diligent practice even when the body and mind are extremely exhausted, not practicing what has not been practiced, even if others think of me as a person with diligence, it doesn't matter, because under the influence of faith, one desires gain and respect, therefore, the *bodhisattva* should be free from and abandon all of these, not taking suffering to heart, being separated from tasting the flavor of *dhyana*, at the time of realization, being free from the discrimination of thinking that I have realized, completely seeking the instructions, realization, completely seeking the Buddha-ground. These eighteen places are where the *bodhisattva* should abide, practice, and keep in mind. These places encompass the three grounds: namely, the sixteen places are the ground of practice by aspiration, the single place of realization is the ground of pure superior intention, and completely seeking the Buddha-ground is the Buddha-ground. Generating the mind for the sake of completely liberating all sentient beings from suffering.

Thereafter, diligently engaging in the perfections is to generate the aspiration to attain the Form Body and Dharma Body of the Tathagata. Thereafter, one separates the mind from the obstacles to realization, from pride and so forth, up to the point of ultimately clinging to the thought of "I am." Thereafter, one thoroughly seeks instructions for the sake of realization. Thereafter, one engages in realization. Thereafter, one further seeks the Buddha-ground. Therefore, their order is like this. Among these, with regard to generating the mind of enlightenment, it is said, "How many sentient beings?" "How many" means quantity. If one thinks, "Do they have a quantity?" it is said, "To be categorized as sentient beings." Although the realm of sentient beings is immeasurable, nevertheless, the term "sentient being" refers to that which is inferred from the meaning of the word that is other than what is thought to be its own nature, that is, those who are known as having similar components are categorized as sentient beings. Therefore, having gathered together what is seen and what is distinguished, and having imputed it as its own nature, therefore, they are gathered together by the distinctions of the aggregates such as form, therefore, they appear as if they possess life. Having shown this generally, in order to show it specifically, it is said, "Born from eggs," and so forth. These characteristics of distinctions are also explained by three divisions: From the division of birth-place, there are four types: born from eggs, and so forth. From the division of dwelling-place, there are those with form and those without form, because their dwelling-places are different. Those with form are those who act in the desire realm and the form realm. Those without form are those in the formless realm. From the division of holding onto signs, there are "those with perception," and so forth. Except for one side of great fruition and sentient beings born at the peak of existence, all are those with perception. One side of great fruition is without perception. This is also made as a division of holding onto signs, because it is distinguished by the absence of perception, so it is represented by that. Those born at the peak of existence are neither with perception nor without perception. This division is made for the benefit of those with weak intellect, not to disparage others.

In order to prevent disputes, it is not elaborated in detail. All dharmas are without sentient beings. In order to show that this statement is not contradictory, and to show that the realm of sentient beings is the conventional truth, it is said, "How many" and so on. The so-called "imputation" refers to knowing the distinct nature of the five aggregates, not what is completely conceived by the non-Buddhists, which is a concluding term. This prevents the extreme of slander, because if imputation exists, there will be no slander. The realm of non-abiding nirvana, where there is no remainder of aggregates with defilements, that is called the complete nirvana of the Shravakas, which is not the realm of nirvana here, because it is inferior. Although there is an excellent result, it is not reasonable for those with a nature of compassion to seek an inferior result. If it is said that although there is an excellent result, it cannot be obtained, so they seek it that way, then according to your view, there are also three lineages and no lineage, so not everyone can obtain the inferior result either. Or there are two kinds of lineages of Bodhisattvas, what are the two? One is overwhelmed by the power of great compassion, thinking, what can this do? The other is thinking, since there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas doing the work of other sentient beings, what is the use of me making meaningless vows here? Abandoning such behavior, distancing themselves from relying on others, and being seized by great compassion, seeing beings threatened by the flames of suffering, thinking that only I can protect them, they make vows. As it is said: "Difficult or not difficult, completely abandoning discriminating thoughts, these beings are so pitiful, you personally take responsibility." If so, then just like hoping for a beloved son to become a king, why not make vows for the excellent result that cannot be obtained? Why only seek the inferior result? Therefore, non-abiding nirvana is the realm of nirvana without the remainder of aggregates here.
