Homage! In brief, there are four types of eyes: the eye that apprehends form, the eye that apprehends ultimate truth, the eye that apprehends conventional truth, and the eye that apprehends all knowable things. The eye that apprehends form is also of two types: the result of karma and the result of meditation. This is consistent with the five eyes and their order. Therefore, in order to understand the object, the eye that apprehends form is explained first. Through the power of ultimate truth, the knowledge of the conventional will become completely pure. Therefore, the eye that apprehends ultimate truth has been explained previously, while the eye that apprehends conventional truth will be explained later, this is to connect and explain the order. For the object of selflessness of person and phenomena, one possesses the eye of wisdom. In the conventional, it appears only as phenomena, not as a person, therefore the person is empty. For the object that is only phenomena, it is the Dharma eye. Completely knowing all knowable things is called the Buddha eye. Since it is now manifestly abiding in this, therefore in the true conventional, by explaining the five eyes, it is stated that what is seen is completely pure. In order to explain that knowledge is completely pure, therefore it is said, "Subhuti, what do you think?" and so on. The minds and mental factors of the past, present, and future are the continuum of the mind. Therefore, since the three times are the object, knowing that object is called knowledge, and should not be called seeing. Furthermore, having a mind with desire and a mind without desire, etc., one must recognize that these are various kinds of all-pervasive afflictions and pure nature. The so-called "so many worlds" is only an example, because one completely knows the continuum of sentient beings belonging to limitless worlds. Thus, in the conventional, the Tathagata possesses the flesh eye, etc. Therefore, in order to accomplish this, the Bodhisattva should abide in aspiration and prayer. This treatise has explained both perfections. If one analyzes the flesh eye, etc., with the nature of one and many, then it is actually invisible. It is also unreasonable to apprehend by knowing other meanings. If it is like the previous analysis, then the Tathagata possesses the flesh eye, etc., and the mind of...

Thinking about how to become all-knowing, he asked, "Why is that so?" In order to explain how Bodhisattvas accomplish these two purities through yogic absorption, he spoke of "the stream of mind, the stream of mind," and so on. The term "without stream" refers to the ultimate truth. Although it has been determined to be emptiness, it is still spoken of in reliance on conventional truth, and therefore it is said to be "the stream of mind." If it were not so, then in the ultimate truth, because it transcends all objects of expression, it cannot be expressed, that is his thought. Saying "stream of mind" is a symbol, just as the fleshy eye and so on are also said to be the emptiness of the nature of the eye, this is the occasion to be said, it is directly spoken. In order to show how to properly grasp the mind, therefore, the question "Why is that so?" was asked, and it is connected with the word "without stream." The past and so on mind, because it is unborn in the ultimate truth, is invisible. Even if it exists, it should not be grasped, therefore it is not invisible. If that is the case, then the cessation of the stream of mind will not be shown, because merely being invisible does not make the nature of things empty. Just as the mind of the three times does not exist in the ultimate truth, this has been explained before, and it will also become a display. Mentioning the mind is a symbol, therefore the fleshy eye and so on, the past and so on, are also invisible. Here, the words "without stream" and so on express the profound meaning. The remaining words express the vast meaning. If the mind of the three times does not exist, then at that time the accumulation of merit will also not exist, because it is dependent on the mind. Therefore, in order to accomplish the perfect accumulation of merit possessed by the Tathagata, how should the Bodhisattva strive? Considering this, after mastering the perfect accumulation of merit, he spoke of "Subhuti, what do you think?" and so on. This means that whether it is a son or daughter of good family, even those who give away external things, such as jewels and so on, are a great accumulation of merit.
