The perfect Sangha, the perfect unsurpassed pure vision, the perfect unsurpassed pure knowledge, the perfect mastery over the accumulation of merit, the perfect body, the perfect speech, and the perfect mind. If the dharma called "Bodhisattva" did not exist, who would strive to accomplish the Buddha-field? In order to dispel this doubt, in order to dispel the doubt of striving, with regard to the perfect purity of the Buddha-field, the Blessed One spoke of "Subhuti, any Bodhisattva" and so on. It should also be said in the same way, which is a conclusive statement that because of those with pride, one should not say "he is a Bodhisattva." Because without realizing the selflessness of beings and dharmas, one thinks that one has realized it, one develops pride. In this way, because one proudly thinks "that is mine," one has not realized the selflessness of beings. Because one develops pride in the non-existent pure lands, one has not realized the selflessness of dharmas. This shows how the Bodhisattva should abide, that is, abiding by regarding the pure lands as illusory. If in the ultimate sense the pure lands do not exist, then how did the Blessed One speak of them? Therefore, the question is asked, "For what reason?" The explanation here is the same as before. This will not become a repetition either, because previously it was to eliminate the conceptual thoughts of the Bodhisattva who abides on the ground of practice with faith, at the time of wishing for the perfection of the Bodhisattva's pure land. Now, for the sake of accomplishing the pure Buddha-field, when the Bodhisattvas enter, it is said to eliminate the conceptual thoughts of those who think that they will enter in such an attached way. At that time, because such conceptual thoughts of some people will not arise again, it will not become endless either. This shows how to accomplish this Bodhisattva. To the question of "What kind of person is called a Bodhisattva?" the Blessed One spoke of "Subhuti, any Bodhisattva" and so on.

Thus it was said. The two mentions of "all dharmas are without self" are to show that all dharmas are without self in two ways of selflessness. The two mentions of "Bodhisattva, Bodhisattva" are to show the realization of those two selflessnesses. Or, one "Bodhisattva" is a repetition. The following saying, "called Bodhisattva," is the manner. So, how will it be shown? In order to make those who do not cling to persons, etc., thinking who is accomplishing, and also do not cling to dharma, thinking that the Buddha-fields are arranged, in order to understand these two non-existences, it is shown that they are called Bodhisattvas. This shows that the mind is completely grasped. All these places show the profound. In order to accomplish the Buddha-field like an illusion, the Bodhisattvas enter into it with faith, which shows the vastness. If there is no such thing as the dharma called Bodhisattva, then the Tathagata would become devoid of completely pure vision and completely pure knowledge. Because if there is no Tathagata arising from the Bodhisattva, how could that be? Without a cause, it would become the meaning of being always existent, etc. Therefore, in order to eliminate the conceptualizations of who are the assembled retinues, etc., for the sake of these two unsurpassed pure vision and knowledge, the Blessed One said, "Subhuti, what do you think?" etc. The venerable Subhuti also anticipated the Blessed One's intention and replied, "Yes." This shows that even though in the ultimate truth there is no such thing as the dharma called Bodhisattva, in the conventional truth, the Tathagata who attains completely pure knowledge and vision by fully accumulating the collections of merit and wisdom, if it is not the unexamined sole joy, then there is only the Bodhisattva whose nature is aggregates. If it is not so, if it does not exist even in the conventional truth, then who will become a Buddha? Thus it is shown. Therefore, it should not be said that the Tathagata only possesses the eye of wisdom, because it is to show the excellence of the completely pure vision.
