It is called the eye. Among them, the eye that grasps with the aspects of what is to be said and what is said is the eye of pervasive calculation called the eye. The nature of distinguishing with the aspects of what is taken and what is grasped, abiding in the form of the appearance of the eye, is the distinguishing eye. Because it is separated from the form of what is to be said and separated from the appearance of the eye, therefore the nature of what is completely established by each self-awareness is called the eye of Dharma-nature. Among them, the eye is empty by the eye, and what is called the eye is the eye of Dharma-nature. The function of the eye is the eye of pervasive calculation and distinction. Empty means separation. Similarly, the ear is empty by the ear, and so on should also be applied. However, the ultimate truth is not what is to be said, nor is it the nature of the eye. If it becomes the nature of the eye, it will become what is to be said. Therefore, why is it said to be the eye of Dharma-nature? This is true. Even so, for all the forms of the eye and so on, and the conditioned dharmas such as form and sound, this indivisible and unique form, when it is distinguished for the purpose of extreme display, when one wants to speak, because there is no other object, therefore it is shown by the words of suchness of form, suchness of sound, suchness of smell, etc., but suchness does not have its form, nor is it spoken by it. Thus, whatever this eye of Dharma-nature, etc., is separated from the inner nature of the eye, etc., is called inner emptiness. Thus, for inner things, even if there are two forms, it will reverse the deep attachment. Bhagavan Mother, how is this proclaimed? As it is said: Not seeing the Bodhisattva, this shows inner emptiness. Because the Bodhisattva has not seen the self-nature of me and the nature of form, etc. As it is said: The Bodhisattva is invisible, whoever

"I am the master," thus spoke the capable one. The profound things within, that is the explanation of emptiness. That is its meaning. Again, in order to reverse the attachment to external things as desirable, outer emptiness is established. The attachment to desirability is also due to the views of outsiders and others who hold forms and so on as self, and the discriminations of those who practice this Dharma towards the objects themselves. To correct the former, it is said, "Form is empty, because of the absence of self and what belongs to self." To correct the latter, it is said, "Form is empty of form, sound is empty of sound," and so on, as before. Thus, the external objects are devoid of self and what belongs to self, and they themselves are devoid of the characteristics of essence and nature, this is called outer emptiness. What the Blessed Mother said here, "Form itself is completely separated by the nature of form," refers to this. In the establishment of the aggregates, the five faculties, namely eye, ear, nose, tongue, and body, and the five objects, namely form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, are called form because they each destroy things that are form. Among them, for the inner forms and so on, there is only inner emptiness. The form that can be seen by the eye and the sounds that can be heard by shapes and so on do not exist, that is outer emptiness. As it is said: "Form is empty by its own nature of form," by saying this, again, the external sources of birth here are the objects to be rejected. Thus, having abandoned the discriminations of inner and outer profundity and desirability, and also abandoning the attachment to self and what belongs to self in the body that is the nature of the aggregation of inner and outer sources of birth, therefore, if someone thinks like this: this collection of inner and outer sources of birth is also empty of the nature of self and what belongs to self, this is inner-outer emptiness. Again, one should think like this: if all dharmas are emptiness, then how can one see these actions of stability and movement and so on, how can one see dependent origination? Again, one should ascertain like this: dependent origination means that no dharma exists, but there is no
