Regarding the meaning that is not to be expressed, there is no increase or decrease. The Blessed One said, "Subhuti, it is not so." Therefore, for generosity and other conditioned virtues, there are faults due to clinging to the object; for the ultimate virtue that is not to be expressed, emptiness is taught because there is no fault due to the nature of not clinging to the cessation of the unconditioned. As it is said: Because of the faulty and the faultless, there is no increase or decrease, the virtues of the conditioned and the unconditioned are all extinguished. Like this. Again, the Bodhisattva should think like this: If all dharmas are emptiness, then, which sentient beings are those who revolve in samsara without beginning, in the three times, whose mental conduct is known, and are called the Blessed One, the All-Knowing One? Those existences in the three times are truly existent. Again, it should be determined like this: a single sentient being has three edges and three names, namely, future, present, and past. If sentient beings existed in the ultimate truth, then only one name would exist. Therefore, the edge of the past is also beyond the edge. Likewise, it is the same for the other two. Its emptiness is the emptiness beyond the edge. As it is said: For the sake of always benefiting sentient beings. Like this. Again, one should think like this: For children, samsara is long. The Blessed One said: Monks, this samsara is without beginning or end, therefore samsara exists. Because of its existence, samsara and through its means, all dharmas exist, can this be established? Again, it should be determined like this: the word samsara does not refer to the existence of some dharmas, but rather to the words without beginning and end. If the word samsara referred to the existence of something, then it would also have a beginning and an end. The existence of no beginning and no end is not seen. Or, if there is no beginning and no end, then is it existent because the middle is not obstructed? For which the beginning and the end,

How can there be a middle if there is no beginning? The term "middle" exists in relation to the beginning and the end. If there is no samsara, where do sentient beings revolve? Samsara itself does not truly exist in the ultimate sense. If someone were to be in samsara, would that be permanent or impermanent? Permanence is not samsara, because it does not change, so samsara is not reasonable. Impermanence is also not samsara, because for those things that perish moment by moment, what kind of revolving could occur? As it is said: There is no permanent samsara, there is no samsara for the impermanent. Samsara is taught to be like a dream. You should realize that very truth. Therefore, precisely because there is no beginning and no end, the term samsara does not exist. That is the emptiness that has no beginning and no end. These two emptinesses, in this sutra, Kausika! If the Tathagata were to remain for kalpas equal to the sands of the Ganges River, and constantly utter the words "sentient beings, sentient beings," nevertheless, would any sentient beings be born or cease there? Indra replied: No. These words have already shown it. No birth, no cessation, and the words "sentient beings," etc., clearly show that for sentient beings and samsara, therefore, emptiness is truly established. Again, as it is said: Not abandoning the meaning of samsara. One should think like this: if all virtuous dharmas are empty, then how can the Bhagavan in the Sambhogakaya remain as long as samsara exists? Therefore, when the Bhagavan attains nirvana, there must also be virtuous dharmas. As it is said: The Tathagata is the homogeneous cause of merit, the roots of virtue will not be exhausted. Therefore, abandonment is for the sake of urging, so for other conditioned dharmas, abandonment exists, but virtuous dharmas have the nature of not being abandoned. Again, it is certain that nirvana itself is temporarily non-existent, so why would those that rely on it, which are inexhaustible, exist? Because nirvana is the nature of complete non-existence, nothing can...
