For example, the meaning of how the nature of the great vidyā-mantra is completely pacified merely by the power of the non-gods without being tainted. Regarding the seizing of the power of the non-gods, the teaching that the great vidyā-mantra itself is the cause was bestowed upon Indra. It is like saying, "It is so, it is so." Afterwards, having been granted permission, even the arising of the complete Buddhas of the three times is shown by the great vidyā-mantra, etc., that is, relying on this, etc. Other qualities of the Blessed Mother were also spoken, that is, relying on this, etc. The ten paths of virtuous action refer to the three abstentions from the evil deeds of the body, namely, abstaining from killing, stealing, and sexual misconduct. Abstaining from the four evil deeds of speech caused by lying, harsh speech, and idle talk. Abstaining from the three evil deeds of the mind, which are the three natures of covetousness, malice, and wrong view. The four dhyānas are: the first dhyāna possesses five branches, namely, initial application (vitarka), sustained application (vicāra), joy (prīti), happiness (sukha), and one-pointedness of mind (ekāgratā). The second possesses four branches, namely, inner tranquility (adhyātma-samprasāda), joy, happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. The third possesses five branches, namely, equanimity (upekṣā), mindfulness (smṛti), clear comprehension (samprajanya), happiness, and one-pointedness of mind. The fourth possesses four branches, namely, purity of equanimity, purity of mindfulness, feeling of pleasure, absence of suffering, and one-pointedness of mind. Among these, the purification of initial and sustained application in the first dhyāna is the cause, because definite emergence arises from the faults of desire, and by separately abiding with peace as the object, therefore they are attained through them. Among these, initial application is the characteristic of the mind focusing on the object. Sustained application is the characteristic of separately abiding with correct understanding. The result is joy and happiness. Because they are of the nature of subsequent holding. Joy is the faultless supreme joy that arises from overcoming desire and non-virtuous dharmas. Happiness is the pleasing

The bliss of happiness and one-pointedness itself is the nature. The one-pointedness with investigation and analysis on the objects such as the faults of desire is its characteristic. The second dhyana is the inner true cause, because there investigation and analysis disturb the mind. Seeing the benefit of no investigation, great joy arises truly in the inner self, and true joy is attained. Because the coarse has been truly abandoned, it is not by the power of investigation and analysis. Like a stream of water truly emerging from the source of true joy within, the mind abides on the object that runs with its own joy. The object is the definite arising and pacified fruit of desires or investigation and analysis, like the former, it is joy and happiness. However, here, even if investigation and analysis have been overcome, one should know the faultless supreme joy, the nature is like the former. Therefore, with desire, investigation and analysis, faults and definite arising, and peace as the object, having the characteristic of one-pointedness with no investigation and no analysis, joy and happiness, is the second dhyana. For the third dhyana, equanimity, mindfulness, and clear comprehension are the causes. For all virtuous conduct, the union of the mind's equality, without harm, without analysis, abiding in the middle, any observation that approaches peace is called equanimity. In the previous dhyanas, due to the power of joy and supreme joy, the effort of the mind will not be abandoned, because it has become coarse, therefore, for joy, the approach of equanimity is not shown, because it is not completely perfect. Here, because it separately returns from detachment. Effort becomes a limb of dhyana, and equanimity enters. Mindfulness is remembering, and it is also the characteristic of not forgetting. Clear comprehension and mindfulness themselves are closely established, if clear comprehension is incomplete, mindfulness will decline. Because mindfulness and clear comprehension do not contradict each other at all times, if all the dhyanas are also summarized in one place, then
